That old stereotype that men prefer beer while women prefer wine is put to the test at the end of August. Both types of alcohol will be overflowing–along with liquor drinks–at the upcoming Kegs and Corks Festival on Saturday, August 24. The Kegs and Corks Festival is in its second year now, and allows friends, couples, and parents to bond over beer and wine. The festival is an all-evening affair that includes freebies in the ticket price, live entertainment, and so much beer and wine your cup will runneth over. Stay tuned for details on this much-anticipated festival.
Most festivals cater to either beer lovers or wine lovers, but not this one. Another incredible feature of the festival is that local wines and brews will be highlighted. As far as the wines go, Maryland wineries like St. Michaels Winery, Cassinelli Winery & Vineyard, Cove Point Winery, Far Eastern Shore Winery, Cygnus Wine Cellars, Perigeaux Vineyards & Winery, Mark Cascia Vineyards, Fridays Creek Winery, Great Frogs (from Annapolis), Bordeleau Vineyards & Winery, Fiore Winery, and Boordy Vineyards are all on the docket to participate. Several breweries from Maryland are also scheduled to bring their tasty brews, like Flying Dog Brewery and Heavy Seas Brewery. Other breweries are from the East coast, like Boulevard Brewing Co., Devils Backbone Brewing Company, and Goose Island.
More widely known beers will also be available, like Stella Artois, Foster’s, and Pilsner Urquell.
Of course, food is necessary (and enjoyable) at events like these. Food vendors like Grapevine Restaurant, Stan and Joe’s, When Pigs Fly, Pit Boys, Papa’s Kettle Korn, and Pepper Jack Grill will provide a range of sandwiches, meats, snacks, and more. Food is not included in the ticket admission, so bring extra.
After having your fill of catered food and tasty, local wine and/or beer, shopping should commence. Vendors like Eco Armour, Herb Works Oil and Vinegar, Barren Creek Leather, Little White Fashion Truck, Oxford Handbags, Silpada Jewelry, Ramon Matheu Arts, and Scentsy will provide their goods for the festival. Additional vendors will supply much-needed info, like Green Life Chiropractic, Renewable Energy, and Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing.
Live music by great bands revered locally and across the States will perform. Each band has an hour or two to wow the crowd. The Truth Project performs first, from noon to 1 p.m.; Appaloosa performs next from 1:30 to 3 p.m.; Uncle Jack Band performs afterward from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.; and Dublin 5 rounds out the night.
More entertainment comes from the beer brewing demonstrations, sangria-making booth, lectures from wine and beer masters, and a talk from Annapolis’s very own Great Frogs Winery.
To best enjoy the music, food, and drinks, bring your own lawn chairs or a blanket.
Pets are not allowed in and neither are coolers.
