The Calvert Marine Museum is one of the most visited attractions in Southern Maryland. A trip to the Calvert Marine Museum makes for the perfect day expedition for those who live in Solomons, Solomons Island, Washington D.C., Annapolis, or anywhere else!

The Calvert Marine Museum was designed and built by volunteers and opened in 1970. The Calvert County Historical Society directed the direction of the museum and then expanded and moved to it’s current location in Solomons. The Drum Point Lighthouse was also moved with the museum.

The museum is nestled above a marshy area and has a stunning boat basin for traveling watermen. The exhibits throughout the museum tell the stunning story of the area’s past, present, and future.

A favorite exhibit has been the large collection of fossils! Fossils that are several millions of years old are displayed as a blast from the past in the paleontology hall. A fossil tour is offered to the nearby Calvert Cliffs where fossils are abundant. Other exhibits include a photography collection, canoes, sail boats, ancient artifacts, and aquariums filled with local water-life.

A large library is located in the museum. The Paul L. Berry Reference Library focuses on maritime history. The library contains a large collection of books, periodicals, newsletters, and film.

The museum’s store is located right inside of the entrance to the museum. You can find handmade items, jewelry, photographs, prints, artwork, boat models, and a plethora of nautical items.
