On the first Sunday of each month from May through November, a portion of West Street is shut down for the aptly named First Sunday Arts Festival. On and off over the last 18 years, the First Sunday Arts Fest has occupied the Arts District of Annapolis starting on West Street and now spilling over into the blocks of Calvert and Lafayette Street.

Each week artisans set up tents and sell their wares to art-loving Annapolitans and tourists alike. Over the years, the restaurants on West Street have also joined in by setting up outdoor brunch options for hungry shoppers. The event draws large crowds of shoppers looking for all sorts of unique items from paper goods to clothing, and everything in between. Between allowing artists to sell their wares, and bringing in customers to Annapolis-based restaurants, Arts Fest is committed to sharing the message of Shop Local.

On Oct. 7, we took a stroll through the Fest in search of a few handmade treasures. If what you see strikes your fancy, you have one last chance to attend the Arts Fest in 2018 on November 4 from 11:30 to 5:30.

In the winter, the Arts Council will bring artisans and chocolatiers together for the annual Chocolate Binge held this year on Dec. 2, for all for all of Annapolis’ chocolate-loving art connoisseurs.
