Annapolis, Md. (Nov. 11, 2018) — Historic Annapolis cordially invites you to celebrate the season in colonial style on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 3 – 6 p.m. Visit the William Paca House (186 Prince George St.) and Hogshead (43 Pinkney St.) for a variety of activities to observe the holidays with a touch of history.
The cost to visit both sites is $10 for adults, $5 for children, free for children three and under. All holiday activities and light refreshments are included with admission. Tickets are available at the door, or reservations can be made at annapolis.org or by calling 410-267-7619.
William Paca House
Stroll through the Paca House and journey back in time at this premier holiday event of the season.
The year is 1770, and William and Mary Paca and their friends, brought to life by the Annapolis Living Historians, are preparing for the upcoming festivities. Mrs. Paca is in her bedchamber with Mrs. Brice, Mrs. Hall, and Mrs. Eden, getting ready for the party and talking about plans for Mrs. Brice’s new home being built just next door. Others, Mr. Paca, Mr. Bordley, Mrs. Ogle, Mr. Worthington, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll, Governor Eden, Colonel Sharpe, and Mr. Eddis remain downstairs playing cards, discussing recent political events, plans for a new theatre in town, and the latest gossip. This is a time for celebration and the Paca’s guests fill the home with laughter, games, and music.
After you experience the colonial holiday for yourself, venture to the basement of the Paca House where you can create your own handcrafted ornament and pomander, a fragrant decoration made of citrus fruit and spices and enjoy a few sweet treats.
Hogshead
Take a stroll down to “Hogshead Tavern” to continue the celebration with the middling sort. Enter the humble tavern where fun and frolic await you. Fiddle music greets you as the tavern keeper and his wife invite you to join in the dancing, playing of colonial games of chance, and tasting of colonial treats of day.
