Restaurateur Gavin Buckley of the Kapow Group, which owns Lemongrass, Tsunami, and Latin Quarter restaurants, wants to bring some life back to Annapolis’s West Street corridor, which has suffered in recent years because of the sagging economy and competition from both Annapolis Towne Centre and Annapolis Westfield Mall.
Buckley hopes that his idea to hold four festivals throughout the spring and summer will give West Street just the spark it needs by attracting new shoppers and diners as well as new business owners.
The first festival, the International Food, Wine and Hops Festival, will be held April 30. About 20 West Street restaurants have agreed to participate and for $25, patrons will be able to visit each establishment.
The remaining festivals will be held throughout the summer, and will include the West Fest music festival during Memorial Day weekend; the Annapolis Comedy Festival from July 14-16, and the Annapolis Fringe Festival, featuring a mixture of theater, comedy, music, and dance performances, during Labor Day weekend.
