There’s an upcoming event that encompasses everything Annapolis. It will benefit your body, mind, Annapolis, and benefit two charities. Not enticed yet by the sheer do-goodness of this event? This event will also show off the city’s pride–the Naval Academy–playing in an energetic game of lacrosse against Johns Hopkins. Enjoy the spring weather this April 21st and participate in this WRNR 7k run.

Power up with a big breakfast, because you’ll need energy to be part of all the events scheduled. Of course, the 7k will take quite a bit of exertion, but the festivities continue after the race. WRNR, a radio station in Annapolis, brings music post-race. Additionally, runners are encouraged to stay for the men’s Navy versus Johns Hopkins lacrosse game. To maximize the fun and replenish calories, do a pregame tailgate! Don’ want to make food yourself? There are tons of food places near the Navy stadium. Most notably, try out Naval Bagels (609 A Taylor Avenue), Annapolis Grill (100 Westgate Circle), Greystone Grill (200 Westgate Circle), or Paul’s Homewood Cafe (919 West Street). What’s also great about this event is that your registration fee pays your admission into the Navy game!

Aside from doing your body and mind good, participating in this day full of fun also gets you free things. Technical shirts are awarded to the first 500 runners. Acquire a shirt and wear it proudly to the Navy lacrosse game! There are also awards for winners!

Additionally, this race is good for charities. Your registration fee goes straight to two fabulous organizations: Wellness House and Run for Sarah. Wellness House provides support and information for cancer-struck families. See more of the good they do on www.wellnesshouse.org. Run for Sarah Run has an incredible, heartfelt mission to save kids from sudden cardiac arrest. See more information on their site, www.runforsarah.com. Run and benefit good causes for $40 if you’re an adult and $35 if you’re 18 and under or a Navy midshipman. The run begins at 7 a.m.

In the spirit of charity, fun, and planning, Annapolis City Hall Chambers holds an informational meeting on March 28 for the WRNR 7k. The run is expected to include about 500 runners. On top of the high amount of participants, the course is a loop around the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium at 550 Taylor Avenue. Because of the high traffic and location, City Hall holds a meeting to plan and inform downtown businesses and the public around the run. Want to learn about the run and if you’ll be affected? Go to the meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall Chambers.

Though this meeting will be brief, TCS Annapolis Half Marathon will show affected areas, street closures, and what to expect in accordance with the run. Annapolis Half Marathon dedicated themselves to working to make the 7k as least negatively impacted on the city, but a little information never hurts. Additionally, the city has alternate access in and out during the race. No worries if you live in the city, either, because Annapolis Half Marathon planned the race earlier than in previous years. An earlier start means the city can resume normalcy in traffic and street openings sooner. The meeting will teach you about the logistics, and maybe even encourage you to participate in the 7k!
