The fun this week begins with the premiere of a new play by Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre entitled Anything Goes. The musical features a plot that takes its characters across the Atlantic on a cruise ship. There is love, singing sailors, and blackmail wrapped up in the musical fun. Performances begin this Thursday, May 24 at 8:30 at the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre. Play times continue at 8:30 on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until June 24. Ram’s Head delivers musical genius again this week. To kick things off, Chuck Prophet and The Mission Express join up with Clarence Bucaro on Monday at 8 p.m. Prophet’s music is unique; it’s part love letter, part blunt reality. The music is alternative/indie. See this group for $20. Tuesday, Eric Scott joins Patty Reese Band plays at 8 p.m. for $18.50. Listen to this singer/songwriter music that’s sure to please. On Friday, fans of Steely Dan should attend the performance of Technicolor Motor Home at Ram’s Head. The group begins at 8 p.m. and costs only $15 to see. On Saturday, Count Basie Tribute brings the swing (music that is) to Ram’s Head! Earlier on Saturday, check out Jason Isbell’s alternative/indie music at 1 p.m. Bring $21 for admission to see Isbell. The beloved downtown coffeehouse, 49 West, features brilliant jazz music this fine week in May. On Monday, 12 Voices starts at 7:30 p.m. with Heather Aubrey Lloyd. See this local singer/songwriter for only $12. Patrons of the coffeehouse, Unified Jazz Ensemble, play at 8:30 p.m. for $6. Wednesday, The DC Experience plays at 8 p.m. The admission cost is $6. Thursday, Cafe Scientific returns with Chris Rice, from the Maryland Energy Administration. There’s no cover charge and the performance begins at 6:30 p.m. Also on Thursday, see Rob Levit Group at 8:30 p.m. for guitar music. The cover charge to see Levit is $6. Friday, 49 West gets adopts a reggae vibe. Caribbean Nights starts at 8 p.m. The cover charge is only $6. On Saturday, see Her, Him & I, an acoustic group. The cover charge is $8 and the show begins at 9 p.m. On Sunday, 49 West supplies entertainment all day! To start things off, Jonathan Stone plays at the brunch hour (around 10 a.m.) for no cover. At four p.m., Swing Brothers visit the stage for no charge. Finally, Pillowbrook comes to the stage at 8 p.m. See this acoustic group for $6. The Mitchell Gallery, part of St. John’s College, opens an exhibit to celebrate artists in Anne Arundel County. Kinder Farm Park in Millersville is known for offering a safe, fun place for kids to play. However, this week, families get the chance to learn about programs, clubs, and activities the park offers. Monday, May 21, is the date of this event. To accommodate working parents, the event starts at 6 p.m. The cost is $3 per person or $5 per family. Even the way Kinder Farm educates is entertaining! Studio 180’s puts on their spring recital this weekend. “Power Up” is the title of the show, which will be held at the Pascal Center for the Performing arts at AACC. “Power Up” catalogs superheroes and includes a bit of dance. The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center offers a canoe excursion this Saturday, May 26. This event is more than merely exercise; participants will learn how the water they paddle on contributes to the Chesapeake Bay. Additionally, participants will learn about the wildlife around the waterways in the area. Not confident in your paddling abilities? No fear; the event is designed for beginner paddlers. Just bring your interest in the environment to the canoe excursion! The cost for adults is $14 and $7 for kids under 12. The excursion begins at 9 a.m. Registration is required.
