June is here, and what better way to celebrate the coming of summer (finally) than to get out and about in Annapolis? As always, the historic, beloved town offers loads of fun through events at Maryland Hall, Ram’s Head, 49 West Coffeehouse, and few other places worthy of mention. Check out what’s going on below and go!
Annapolis History
Historic Annapolis Museum features a little something different to make Sunday, June 3, interesting. Try out their community stitching event from noon to 4 p.m. and make history! The museum offered something very similar on Maryland Day, so if you missed that celebration, here’s your second chance. At this event, participants add stitches to one of the museum’s 18th and 19th century artwork tapestry canvases. As part of the event, participants also sign a log which stands as proof of making history. Ages six and over are welcome. The museum is downtown, at 99 Main Street.
If stitching isn’t your cup of tea, The William Paca House hosts another historical event. Also on June 3, participants of the Paca House tour will learn more about the historic landmark from a colonial. Tours last one hour and begin at 12:30 p.m. Guided tours run until 3:30 p.m. For adults, the price is $10, and children 6-17 years must fork up $5 for the tour. The William Paca House is at 186 Prince George Street. For this event and the one above, visit www.annapolis.org for more information.
The Banneker-Douglass Museum presents “Faces of Ghana” until June 2, a photography exhibit. As the name suggests, the photographs display pictures of people in Ghana that Jay L. Baker took while visiting. The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 410-216-6180.
Hold on; there’s more history coming at you from the Hammond-Harwood House! This event is unique and rather exclusive, and certainly worth your while. Go to www.hammondharwoodhouse.org for ticket info.
