There is a local man who is trying to change lives in a big way, and he wants you to get involved too. You’ve probably read some of this man’s work. He’s somewhat of a local legend, not just for his reporting, but also for his endeavor to grow a cause. This man is The Capital reporter/writer Pat Furgurson. This March 10, Furgurson will join others for a head-shaving good time at Fado Irish Pub to support St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Want to join or know more? Keep reading.
Furgurson, a man committed to sharing news with you, has another reason for rallying behind the cause. He was once affected by Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This childhood cancer is brutal, but for some like Pat, radiation can pacify or remediate the disease. St. Baldrick’s Foundation functions to fundraise money for more cancer research by participating in a head-shaving. Furgurson hopes that this research can save others, just like it did for him some years ago.
In the spirit of saving others, there will be an upwards of 80 Annapolis people at Fado to participate in the head-shaving. Even if you don’t want to shave your locks, you can still join the excitement at Fado.
In addition to the shave at Fado, Furgurson will be at Galway Bay on Maryland Avenue on Thursday, March 7. He will be a guest bartender to raise even more for St. Baldrick’s. Galway will feature raffles and a silent auction to donate to cancer research.
Last year, Furgurson helped St. Baldrick’s Foundation accrue 80,000 dollars. Since its inception in 2000, St. Baldrick’s has raised near 100 million for cancer research. As of today, St. Baldrick’s Foundation has raised more than $4,800,000 just in 2013. Last year, the foundation proudly donated an upwards of $33,000,000 to cancer research. Donating is as simple as the concept of shaving your head to support kids with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Head to www.stbaldricks.org and click “Donate”; enter “Pat Furgurson” in the team/participant window; and then, follow the steps to enter an amount.
Donate, join, drink at Galway, or do a mixture of all three to help a local man help others nationally. The website provided above will also give you more information about St. Baldrick’s, which is a national fundraising organization. Learn about the athletes who participate in the cause and enter in the “Shaving Games,” read about the history of the cause, and discover how you can help.
