There may not be miles of beach in Annapolis, but the historic and bustling city is nevertheless entertaining in summer. See what memories you can make with the following events.

Annapolis Entertainment

This first event just screams summer in Annapolis: join the USNA’s Concert Band for a free concert this Tuesday, July 9, at 7 p.m. The music from USNA and the free entertainment (and did we mention the location at City Dock?) make for a relaxing and entertaining night. The concert lasts about two hours and requires no tickets. Celebrate summer downtown!

Here’s another noteworthy free event from USNA: the Commandant’s Combo on Thursday, July 11. This concert is held on Willow Green Street in St. Michaels, but the eclectic music is worth the drive. The music kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and ends around 8 p.m.

On Saturday, July 13, the USNA’s Crabtowne Stompers will perform at Easton’s Talbot County Fair. The music begins at 3 p.m. and ends one hour later. For more information on these USNA events, visit www.usna.edu/USNABand/events.htm.

Want more free music? Attend the Friday night shows at Annapolis Towne Centre, which are–you guessed it–free and open to all. These shows begin around 7 p.m. and differ in terms of musical genre by week. This week, the Swingin’ Swamis bring electric jazz to encourage dancing and good times. this week. If you still haven’t experienced the fun, just know that a play full of chaos, friendship, and musical-making await you. The show ends on July 20, so catch it in the final weeks of showing. Head to www.summergarden.com to acquire tickets.

Annapolis Green

Saturday is usually reserved as a day of relaxation and perhaps, if the weather cooperates, outdoor activities. This Saturday, participate in the Native Orchids of Maryland Talk and Hike put on by the Smithsonian Research Center. As you could imagine, attendees will learn about native orchids and then hike to look for orchids. The price is $8 per person and is more suitable for the 15 and older crowd. Annapolis History

The “Historic Mondays” with Schooner Woodwind are both entertaining and educational–a true bargain for your buck. This Monday, the topic is a vanishing community of African American watermen that the host for the evening, Dr. Joan Gaither, commemorates via a documentary story quilt. Join her for a two-hour sail to learn about this fascinating and mysterious subject. Tickets cost $42 for adults and $27 for children. The cruise departs at 6:30 p.m. from Annapolis Marriott Waterfront. For additional information on this event, look to www.annapolis.org.
