What started out on the west coast has finally reached us here on the east coast. Going green is the lifeblood to numerous organizations here in Annapolis and has quickly become enjoyable and feasible to participate in. Thanks to stellar events like Green Drinks, we know that part of what it means to “go green” is to share ideas with others to grow individual knowledge and the green community holistically. However, it’s also vital to invest in the Earth and its marvelous produce. Thus, being the center of green that it is, Annapolis hosts several farmers markets worth attending and eating of. See what’s available below and set the alarm for bright and early on Saturday and Sunday.

If Sunday mornings mean the same for you as they do for most (slow mornings with strolls to favorite places), visit the market on Compromise Street across from Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre. The Donner Parking Lot is the spot of the market that is open from 8:30 a.m. to noon., early May to mid November. The produce of course ranges by season, but comes from small farmers who reside in the Chesapeake region.

Off of Riva Road and Truman Parkway, you’ll find a farmers market open on Saturdays and Tuesdays from April to December. Plenty of farmers attend these, along with local businesses like Great Harvest Bakery. From early April to mid December on Saturday, the market is open from 7 a.m. to noon. If shopping at the mall is amongst one of your regular Sunday activities, try shopping at the farmers market at Westfield Mall. This market provides fresh, seasonal veggies and more on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Or, perhaps you shop at the Annapolis Harbour Centre, at which there is also a farmers market. This market is quite popular as well: the PA Dutch Farmers Market.You can find bounty of produce, baked goods, side dishes, specialty items, and more grown or prepared by farmers in Pennsylvania. Like most markets, this one has limited hours: Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The site, http://padutchfarmmarket.com, has coupons applicable to the market as well as more information.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) hosts a farmers market on Thursdays during the summer and in September. If you’d like to peruse the offerings, head to the DNR parking lot off Taylor Avenue. Take your pick of veggies, fruit, and local goodies from 3 to 6 p.m.

Off Ritchie Highway and Jones Station Road is the Severna Park farmers market. This one runs from 8 a.m. to noon during the months of April through October. Sometimes, you can find pottery at this one too. Visit the farmers and artisans there on Saturdays.

If you venture nearer to north Anne Arundel County on Wednesdays, stop at the Glen Burnie farmers market at the Glen Burnie Mall. This market is only open during the summer. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to noon.
