As we continue our discussion of art, we seem to be getting closer and closer to what local art truly is comprised of. We learned from The Circle Gallery that young Annapolitan artists have magnificent, innovative visions as their work was interesting enough to win a contest and be on display at the gallery. Via the works showcased in Annapolis Marine Art Gallery at City Dock, we learned that Annapolis surroundings play an integral role in art’s craftsmanship. Now, after a trip to Annapolis Collection Gallery on West Street, we can conclude that the eclectic work of several Annapolis artists is more than enough to sustain a business and continually foster interest in local art. It’s time now to learn about the exquisite art Annapolis Collection Gallery has to offer (and not to mention the numerous events at which you can view the art too).Annapolis Collection Gallery Lovely Interior

As stated above, Annapolis Collection Gallery is devoted to six Annapolis artists, though it does often feature the work of artists like Carl Palmer. The artists predominantly represented there include the famed painted work of: Sally Wern Comport, Moe Hanson, Greg Harlin, Roxie Munro, Ann Munro Wood, and Yoo Mi Yoon. The gallery’s site, www.annapoliscollection.com, tells of a lengthy biography for each artist. To start, Comport is greatly recognized for her bold colors and clean lines in paintings that capture new Navy grads throwing their hats into the air at graduation and people at work or play. Hanson is a realist and her artwork tells the stories of people in professions like ballet and music-making, along with people in repose. Harlin, is most noted for his watercolor images that harken back to American history–the time of revolutions and the Boston Tea Party. Munro is applauded for her penchant for city architecture, applauded in works that show large apartment buildings and skyscrapers in the midst of winter. Munro even featured a bird-eye view of downtown Annapolis. Wood captures elegant, almost ethereal beauty in her paintings, like the one of a regal lady. Yoon’s artwork features a contrast of colors along with a contrast of soft lines versus sharp lines. Her work is Asian is style. These artists live in Annapolis and many of them illustrate as well.Annapolis Collection Gallery Annapolis art close-up

Along with the master painters, Annapolis Collection Gallery features the photography of three talented ones: Charles E. Emery, Marion E. Warren, and Bo Zaunders. Emery was the first president of Annapolis and, lucky for us, he was also a gifted photographer. When he passed, his granddaughter found his old black and white film and has graciously shared it with Annapolis Collection Gallery. Emery captured fishermen, old parts of Annapolis, and what life was like in the 40s and 50s. Warren also captures scenes of Annapolis. Zaunders takes breath-taking photos of life in action across the world.

Katherine Burke, the proprietor at Annapolis Collection Gallery, schedules a wealth of events meant to merge art/artists and the public. Gallery Row is a night of celebrating art and business on West Street every June, which Annapolis Collection participates in with artist seminars. The gallery also hosts meet and greets with artists every so often, like the most recent ones with Carl Palmer and Roxie Munro. See the website above for more on upcoming exhibits and events.
