What pairs better with crisp fall weather than outdoor entertainment in downtown Annapolis? This week, see how seamlessly these two become with the Fringe Festival and other fun in the area.

Annapolis Entertainment

USNA puts on an event this Saturday, October 26, that packs a punch of entertainment: the Navy Football game at the Navy Stadium. Since Navy plays at home, the USNA Band performs for musical interest. The game starts at 1 p.m. Go to USNA’s site to learn more about this event.

The festival that celebrates innovative, unexpected forms of art–the Fringe Festival–kicks off this Saturday. Haven’t heard of this festival that’s taking over the eclectic art scene all over the nation? It’s a celebration full of inexpensive entertainment that lasts from the morning (when kid-friendly activities are scheduled) to the night (when adult-focused entertainment ensues). The price for day entertainment is $5; the price for night entertainment is also $5. The day and night combo ticket is $7.50. Activities planned include interpretative readings, art shows, and singing. Visit Annapolis Fringe Festival to learn more.

Fishing and gathering seafood is simply part of the landscape here in Annapolis, but this Sunday adds a competitive element to the fishing and gathering. The First Annual Catch and Release Striped Bass Fishing Tournament on Sunday allows fishermen–the pros and amateurs–to test skills by catching the biggest fish possible. For more on this event, go to CCAMD.

Annapolis Green

Great things can be accomplished when the whole community is involved. This Saturday, the city gets involved in the nation-wide initiative known as “Make Difference Day.” In Annapolis, this means community members will be encouraged to participate in GreenScape, an Annapolitan program that gathers volunteers to work on improving public green space. Participants can order bulbs to plant at locations across the city at various times on Saturday. Unearth your green thumb! Learn more about this initiative at Annapolis Green.

Annapolis Families

Snakes, reptiles, and live tricks on stage, oh my! Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts presents a special performance that’s ideal for the whole family, and sure to wow the whole family! “Rainforest Reptile Show: Rarity in Peril” allows families to watch as a trained specialist shows off endangered reptiles and amphibians from warm climates. This show is scheduled for Saturday, October 26 at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $19 for adults and $15 for kids. View Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts’s page for detail. This event begins at 8 p.m.

Also on Saturday, the Chesapeake Children’s Museum provides a great event for older members of the family. The CCM will educate participants on slavery and the Underground Railroad with a dynamic performance by a much-acclaimed conductor from Cambridge. The CCM recommends this event for anyone over fourteen. The price is $10 for each participant. To read more about this historical and entertaining event, head to CCM’s site.

Annapolis History

As Halloween creeps closer and closer, Annapolis puts on more ghost and ghoul-inspired events. This Friday, October 25, test your courageousness at the “Historic Hauntings Tour” through the William Paca House from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. This tour opens visitors’ eyes to the haunted past of the Annapolis historic site we all love and thought we knew. This tour is also offered on Saturday at the same time and place for the same price. Visit Annapolis Historic Foundation for more.
