Annapolis brings a city-wide film event, a shopping event, and plenty of live and green events to get you going this week!

The major event this week is the Annapolis Film Festival, which takes place all over Annapolis. The festival includes over seventy films, tons of parties, special releases, panel discussions, and chances to meet the film staff. Another big community event is the Annapolis Business Association’s March Madness Shopping event, happening March 29-30. This event brings out sidewalk sales, restaurant discounts, and chances to win big money for shopping. This event is totally free and does good for local downtown businesses. USNA’s Music Department brings two shows full of classy music and old musical traditions to Annapolis this week. The first is the Moscow Festival Ballet, performed on Tuesday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Hall. This ballet is part of the “Distinguished Artist Series.” Next, Mr. Monte Maxwell performs in an organ recital on Friday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. This event takes place in the USNA Main Chapel. Rams Head presents live music this week, starting with Jake Shimbukuro at 8 p.m. on Monday. Shimabukuro’s show costs $45. Tuesday, Crystal Bowersox of American Idol season 9 performs two shows–one at 6 and the next at 8 p.m. There is a VIP option and a general admission option: $19.50 for the general and $50 for VIP. Wednesday, Nicole Atkins and Arc Iris perform at 8 p.m. for $20. Thursday, Will Downing performs at 8 p.m. for $75. On stage at the Compass Rose Theatre is perhaps the most recognizable and celebrated play in all of history–Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The Compass Rose version follows the original and is on stage until April 20. Buy tickets on www.compassrosetheatre.org.

The Colonial Players open a new performance this week: Bay Boy, The Musical. This performance takes gothic horror and pop rock to a new level. A half human, half bat is taken to the town vet and is civilized, though the process isn’t so easy! Enjoy this mysterious comedy with friends. As the warmer weather comes, get outside and tour Annapolis! The best way to do it is through Watermark’s walking tours. The “Four Centuries Walking Tour” is offered every day this week at both 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The tour takes guests through historical Annapolis landmarks over the course of about 1.5 hours. Annapolis Green

Annapolis goes green with a few educational events and outdoorsy events this week. First up, Quiet Waters Park hosts “The Amazing Wildlife of Madagascar & The Urgent Need for Conservation” on Wednesday, March 26. Learn about rare birds and the imminent problem of extinction for these birds. This event begins at 7 p.m.

Thursday, join 49 West Coffeehouse for Cafe Scientifique” to learn about modern transportation and what it does to our Earth. This event is free and begins at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday brings the 3rd Annual 5k for the Bay, a running event that raises funds for Chesapeake Bay Trust. The whole family can enjoy the local food and drink, music, Bowie Baysox’s Mascot, activities, and more. The price is $30 for runners over 12 years of age.
