This week is full of USNA and sailing events in celebration of Commissioning Week and Annapolis. Attend a cruise, watch the Blue Angels from downtown, or try a new musical performance this week. All are open to you!

This week hosts Commissioning Week activities in Annapolis, most notably, the return of the Blue Angels. Enjoy the practice performance and the official one on Tuesday and Wednesday. For more info about times and more, head to www.annapolis.com.

The USNA Music Department offers several enticing events this week: a trident bass performance, a men’s glee club performance, a women’s glee club performance, an organ recital, and a gospel choir concert. All these events are done in celebration of USNA’s Commissioning Week. The first performance, the trident bass concert, happens at 12:15 p.m. at the Zimmerman Bandstand on Monday. At 8 p.m. on Monday, attend the men’s glee club concert at Mahan Hall. Tuesday at 8 p.m. is the date of the women’s glee club concert. It’s held at Mahan Hall as well. The organ recital happens Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Main Chapel after the Blue Angels performance. The final concert happens at 7:30 p.m. in Mahan Hall on Thursday. 40 Minute Bay Cruise Watermarks Cruises Annapolis Md photo by WatermarkIn congruence with the Commissioning Week activities at USNA, Watermark offers a few cruises also in celebration. The first comes on Tuesday and is a cruise around the Harbor to watch the Blue Angels practice. The next day, cruise while watching the official Blue Angels performance. Another Annapolis tradition, the Wednesday night races, starts this Wednesday. These races are put on by the Annapolis Yacht Club and are free, family-friendly, and of course, entertaining. You know summer is quickly approaching when Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre opens their first performance. This week, 42nd Street, the first musical play of the year, starts on May 22. This musical is in the theme and feel of Broadway, with the plot focusing on a theatre director struggling to produce a big show. Compass Rose Theatre continues their performance, Another Day on Willow Street, this week. The play follows the lives of two couples struggling along in their relationships in the midst of 9/11. In addition, The Colonial Players continues their performance, These Shining Lives, this week. This play follows four women working in a watch factory who become subject to the unknown health hazards of their work. The women fight for their rights and become closer in the process.
