Maryland Avenue and State Circle proudly announce the return of their annual Irish Festival this Sunday, June 8. This festival brings children, pets, and adults together in celebration of Irish influence here in Annapolis, specifically on Maryland Avenue and State Circle. Restaurants there will offer specials, vendors will line the streets, and music will be played outdoors for all to hear. This festival has no admission charge and pets on leashes are invited. And, the festival includes a parade through Main Street. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the parade begins at noon. For more, visit www.marylandave.com.

On stage this week, 42nd Street by Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre continues. This show centers on a Broadway director hoping to make it big with his next new show. He finds love and gets tangled along the way, but somehow finds a place in the hearts of the audience at the same time. For more description and to find ticket prices, head to www.summergarden.com.

Cruising is enjoyable most months of the year, but with the coming of summer June offers, it seems now is the perfect time to cruise the open waters. As always, Watermark and Schooner Woodwind feature several enticing cruises this week. These cruises vary in length and destination(s). There are too many cruises and details to discuss here, but each site offers info. Peruse the calendar for Watermark cruises at http://cruisesonthebay.com. Perhaps cruising isn’t your thing–you might prefer exploration on a small vessel. If so, Discover Village’s free kayaking on Thursday is for you. The location in Shady Side offers free use of kayaks for families, friends, and all else on a first-come, first-serve basis. The time is 5 p.m. to just before sunset.

Saturday brings another chance to kayak, this time thanks to South River Federation. The annual kayak and picnic celebration is meant to excite the public about the hard work the federation does to keep waters clean, to encourage activity, and to take pleasure in the great outdoors. Expect details in a few days. Stay tuned to www.southriverfederation.net to find out more.

Here’s a cool event hosted by Annapolis Maritime Museum: a celebration of World Oceans Day and premiere of Maryland film Sharks of the Coral Canyon. Attendees will learn about the film, oceans across the world, and benefit the maritime museum in the process. Tickets cost $5 for adults and half that price for kids. The proceeds go to the museum.
