Saturday, December 13, marks the return of one of the most important traditions to Annapolitans as Navy revives its rival with Army in the 115th playing of ‘America’s Game’, but if you’re not making the trip up to M & T Bank Stadium for the festivities, Annapolis has another emerging tradition for your holiday pleasure: SantaCon.

Last year, Maryland’s capital joined hundreds of other cities in dozens of countries in hosting its own version of this worldwide phenomenon, as it held the inaugural SantaCon Bar Crawl in Downtown Annapolis. This year, Santa and his trusty partiers are returning for another chance to parade from bar to bar, don creative costumes, sip spiked eggnog, and raise money for a good cause. According to event organizers, SantaCon “incorporates elements of a flash mob in the context of cheerful and harmless behavior, the singing of Christmas carols, and the giving of small gifts to strangers.”
Keeping with the spirit of the season, SantaCon participants often aim to be as charitable as St. Nick himself, so not only will the event include the opportunity to make donations, purchase raffle tickets, and buy commemorative swag for charity, but a portion of proceeds from participating bars will go to benefit the Chesapeake Kids program at Hospice of the Chesapeake. The program works to ensure sick children and those dealing with tough issues at home receive the “perinatal and pediatric palliative care or counseling and support programs” they need.

SantaCon will commence at 11:00am at Rams Head for mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, and brunch food before heading down Ego Alley and through Downtown Annapolis.
