A Message from Mayor Buckley

As many of you have already heard, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan today ordered the closure of all restaurants, bars, gyms and movie theaters in the state as of 5 p.m. today. The purpose is to try to limit the spread of this virus known as COVID-19.

This will be very trying for our community and how we respond will test our unity. I want to assure you of the dedication of our city employees. We have the best people in place in a time of crisis, especially our Office of Emergency Management, Police and Fire as well as Public Works leadership and staff. We have plans and protocols in place to ensure that critical public safety and City services can continue. 

The Emergency Operations Center and the Annapolis Call Center are both now activated. For questions, the Call Center number is 410-260-2211. 

We need you to do your part too. Many restaurants and retail establishments are still available for carryout and delivery. Hourly wage earners will be hit hard by these closures.

I will be advocating to the state and federal government to bring resources to the people in our community who are going to need it.  

Your safety, health and security are of paramount importance right now. We’ll get through this together.

For questions about COVID-19, please call the Department of Health Warm Line at 410-222-7256 or visit the Anne Arundel County Department of Health at aahealth.org. Please follow Department of Health guidelines and practice social distancing, wash your hands thoroughly and often, and avoid large gatherings. 

The City of Annapolis’ Office of Economic Development has developed an online page of  local, state and federal resources for local businesses and workers. Visit the page here. 

Aside from the restaurant closures, the Governor’s Office further prohibits any social, community, religious, recreational, sports gatherings, or other events of more than 50- people in close proximity in all venues across Maryland. The governor also prohibited utilities, including electric, gas, water, sewer, phone, cable TV and interest service provider companies from shutting off service to any residential customers or charging them late fees during the state of emergency. Evictions are prohibited during the state of emergency. 

Providing three meals and a snack a day to students who need it. To that end, Anne Arundel County Public Schools is offering breakfast, lunch and dinner meals for any child aged 2 to 18 (Free and Reduced Priced Meals or not). Sites in Annapolis include every public school site as well as six drop sites. Adults are not permitted to pickup without a child. For the complete list and times, visit the AACPS website.
