As Downtown Annapolis prepares for the upcoming Fringe Festival, many businesses are gearing up with special art related events of their own. The Annapolis Collection Gallery on Gallery Row is one of Downtown Annapolis’ numerous high end art centers supporting the Fringe Festival. Owner Katherine Burke has participated in the Fringe Festival since its inception 3 years ago. She is one of three organizers this year and handles much of the publicity for the event. Burke’s Collection Gallery has been hosting a Rock Star Series for several months, featuring new work by some of rock n roll’s most historic names, which will continue through Fringe Festival.
The first musician turned artist to showcase his work at the Annapolis Collection Gallery was Carl Palmer of Emerson Lake and Palmer. Palmer’s “Twist of the Wrist” exhibit drew attention and praise to the Rock Stars Series from regional and national art lovers. In addition to Palmer, the series has featured work by the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, and Stephen Perkins, of Jane’s Addiction.
Currently, the gallery is featuring “Absence of Corners,” an exhibit by longtime Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward. These amazing rock & roll inspired collections of “rhythm on canvas” are sure to mesmerize art lovers and Ward fanatics, alike.
Originally, an artist reception and discussion with Ward was scheduled for October 26 to coincide with the Fringe Festival. Unfortunately, Ward recently suffered a perforated diverticulitis and required emergency surgery in California. The procedure was successful, and Ward is expected to fully recover over the next few weeks; however, the planned reception at Annapolis Collection Gallery has been postponed.
“I am truly sorry that I have to postpone the Absence of Corners gallery reception,” said Ward. “The feedback I have received from everyone about this project has been astounding, and I was so looking forward to this event. I want to thank the Annapolis Collection Gallery for everything they are doing. I am honored that they are exhibiting my art, and I hope to get there to celebrate this collection with you all very soon.”
Don’t let Ward’s absence discourage you from checking out his “Absence of Corners” exhibit. Make plans to stop by when you’re at Fringe Festival or anytime you’re on Gallery Row, to get your ultimate art and rock & roll fix.
