Annapolis, MD- The relationship between the City of Annapolis and the United States Navy can be traced back well beyond the formal establishment of the Naval Academy in 1845. In recent years, the town has commemorated this centuries-long partnership by coordinating with the Naval Academy for an annual celebration in honor of the Navy’s birthday. This year’s festivities take place October 7-13, and are on pace to draw record numbers in both business participation and visitor turnout.
The first few years of the coordinated celebration saw modest success. 5 local businesses participated in the inaugural celebration in 2011. The second year, participation jumped to 15 businesses. Now in it’s third year, the celebration has attracted over 30 downtown and area businesses offering themed specials and events that coincide with the Navy birthday. Among the dozens of businesses participating are Reynolds Tavern, Evergreen Antiques, 49 West, Chance Jewelers, and Navette Consignment. For a complete list of participating businesses and their special offers and discounts, go to www.Annapolis.com/Navy-Birthday-Specials.
As a result of Annapolis.com’s easy to use software, which allows businesses to post their own specials and have them in front of the public eye almost instantly, a record number 30 businesses are already committed to hosting Navy birthday related specials and events for 2013, with more being added each day.
