This week of entertainment in Annapolis is quieter than most, but that does not translate to a dull week in the least! Peruse the music and more detailed below.

Music is perhaps the most universal form of entertainment and Annapolis has its own musical flavor to savor this week. 49 West Coffeehouse provides low-key yet lively music from locals all week, starting with a series of nine local songwriters. Hear what this night of “The 9 Songwriters” is all about for $10 starting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Unified Jazz Ensemble perform to their usual acoustic, enjoyable standard at 8:30 p.m. This show costs $6. Wednesday, Susan Jones Trio visits the venue at 8 p.m. with the sounds of the violin. This show costs $10. Thursday, Gas Works, a Severna Park group, performs at 8 p.m. for $10. Rams Head keeps with the theme of great music, but with its own rock and roll twist. NRBQ performs on Tuesday, January 28, for $25. This easygoing group also welcomes a dinner course to be added to the show deal for $105. The music starts at 8 p.m. Naked Blue, a folk/pop husband and wife team, performs on Wednesday for $20. The show begins at 8 p.m. Thursday, Meshell Ndegeocello performs a tribute to the great Nina Simone at 8 p.m. The show costs $49.50. Friday, Bob Sima and Marc Douglas Berardo perform at 8 p.m. for $22.50. Saturday, Good Deale Bluegrass & Eastman String Band play the blues at 8 p.m. for $21. Maryland Hall hosts music from the opposite side of the spectrum: classical Mozart with a show entitled “The Magic Flute.” This performance is ideal for young children, ages four and up. Annapolis Green
This next event belongs in both this “green” category and the “entertainment” one: 49 West Coffeehouse’s Cafe Scientific on Thursday. Dr. Jim Hagberg discusses the pros and cons of exercise in a compelling two-hour talk. This event is totally free.
The Maryland Showcase of Sustainability is scheduled for Monday, January 27, at The Westin Hotel. This event functions in part like an awards show yet also as a sociable information session. Participants will learn about what green businesses, organizations, and industries are doing to make Maryland a greener state. The price is $75.
