Despite the throes of winter, Annapolis continues with festive and exciting entertainment. Namely, via various musical performances. On Thursday, January 31, United States Naval Academy wows with a winter concert by the USNA Wind Ensemble. The concert is available to anyone who wants to experience a lovely and local performance. Even better, the concert is free. Music at Ram’s Head is always live and never dull. This week, Mountain Heart visits the beloved downtown spot on Thursday, ready to perform folk/bluegrass music. This show begins at 8 p.m. and costs $22.50. On Saturday, February 2, Good Deale Bluegrass & Eastman String Band performs with Phil Rosenthal at 8 p.m. This performance that costs $21 is chock full of bluegrass beats and soulful sounds. At 49 West, Monday features another round of nine singer/songwriters in the area sharing their talent. The music and style will be eclectic and exciting. Attend the show at 7:30 p.m. for $10. On Tuesday, Unified Jazz Ensemble entertains again at 8:30 p.m. for $6. The Abbotts perform on Wednesday for free at 8 p.m. Thursday, Cafe Scientific returns with information about climate shifts. Green events this week can be found on AnnapolisGreen.com.This week presents opportunities to both learn about going green and enjoy social green events. Green Drinks, the social networking party that’s taken the Annapolis green community by storm, takes place this Tuesday at O’Brien’s on Main Street. The eco-friendly event lasts from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is all about learning from others about green practices and sharing your own. There is no admission fee or need to RSVP.

On Saturday, February 2, educate yourself and be entertained with a birdwalk put on by Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary at 8 a.m. The birdwalk educates on early morning winter birds and entertains with a walk through the woods. Learn more about these two fun, very green events here.

Annapolis Families

Chesapeake Children’s Museum kicks off February the right way: with kid-friendly entertainment that’s both educational and interesting. The “World Wetlands Day” celebration takes place over the course of Saturday and Sunday, February 2 and 3, and teaches youth about the importance of preserving the Earth. More specifically, kids will learn about the area’s waters, can participate in activities, and round out the experience with a winter stroll along a creek. Everyone attending should dress for the weather and bring $5 for each child. This event takes place 2 to 4 in the afternoon both Saturday and Sunday.
