It’s a good week in Annapolis–there’s live entertainment, free things to do, outdoorsy activities, and even an annual feast that celebrates our favorite crustacean.

Annapolis Entertainment

Annapolis–and really, Maryland in general–is cherished for fresh crabs. This Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., there is a festival solely dedicated to this wonderful crustacean we claim and love. The annual Rotary Crab Feast is held at the Navy Stadium and costs $60 for adults and $20 for children. It’s an all out, all you can eat crab feast that also features drinks, cakes, soups, sandwiches, hot dogs, cakes, and a raffle. Blend music, free entertainment and seasoned musicians who represent the Navy and what do you get? The music concerts over the summer put on by the USNA Band. The first one this week kicks off on Tuesday and is at City Dock at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the band’s Electric Brigade performs for the crowd at 6 p.m. at Quiet Waters Park. Over at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, music reverberates from the hallways all year long. This Saturday, August 3, a special performance is scheduled: a tribute Motown and soul legends done by artists like Art Sherrod Jr. The performance kicks off at 7 p.m. and costs a cool $20 for the general public. At Rams Head on Stage, new music acts are scheduled. This Tuesday, July 30, Popa Chubby performs alongside the Bad Influence Band at 8 p.m. Tickets for this show cost $21.50. Thursday, Marrakesh Express bring live music liken to the sounds of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. This tribute show costs $23.50 and starts at 8 p.m.Friday, Dick Dale brings his electric guitar to the stage for an energetic show at 8 p.m. that costs $37.50. As far as water-filled activities, the cruises by Watermark and Schooner Woodwind are some of the best options. At Watermark, the Rock n’ River Cruise with Brett Dennen is quite a tempting choice. Thursday, August 1 starts the first performance of a series ideal for grown-up viewing: Into the Woods. This performance is put on by the talented Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre and takes a whimsical, creative spin on the classic tales from our childhood. Annapolis History

It’s another week of great sailing combined with great history here in Annapolis. Thanks to Schooner Woodwind, the two come together seamlessly. Monday presents the chance to cruise around Annapolis for two hours while learning about photographing Annapolis. A veteran photographer will be guiding the tour that leaves at 6:30 p.m. from the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel. The cost for adults is $42 and for children is $27. Annapolis Green

Going green is easy to do thanks to great events like the “Swimmable Action Day” at Mayo Beach Park this Sunday, August 4. The event revels in the water-filled activities of the area, such as kayaking, canoeing, and swimming, all of which you can do at the beach. The fun begins at 9 a.m. and comes to a close at 1 p.m. Everything is free though donations are greatly appreciated.

In other news, it’s still “Buy Local Week” here in Anne Arundel. The challenge is made out to everyone in the county and the task is simple: purchase and eat of local famers. More water fun? No problem. At the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, the canoe adventures are still going on. These $16 excursions (for adults and $8 for children) take participants around Muddy Creek and Rhode River where wildlife is easy to spot and enjoyable to learn about.
