Annapolis Entertainment

Eastport, Annapolis’s nautical-loving neighborhood, hosts their annual Eastport-a-Rockin’ this Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be likes of a great festival: 26 bands, food, drinks, and a good time. The tickets are ridiculously affordable: $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Head to www.eastportarockin.com to get your tickets.

At The Colonial Players, it’s another week of the twisting and turning performance entitled Taking Steps. This play evokes a mysterious spirit and places it front and center as an integral part of the performance. The plot goes something like this: the owner of a theatre hears a door slam in his Victorian-style theatre, but the continual running and up and down of stairs, the presence of a ghost, the numerous characters with numerous problems, and a touch of chaos make it difficult to piece out what happens at the theatre. It’s a spontaneous play that’s sure to be quite different from plays you’ve seen before! Interested? Head to http://tickets.thecolonialplayers.org to acquire tickets. This performance lasts until June 29.

Yoga cruises continue this week with Watermark. These are scheduled on the mornings of June 22 and 23. Sail for two hours, strike a series of yoga poses, enjoy the Bay breezes, and refresh with coconut water afterward. The price is $49 per person. Not in the mood to bend and stretch while sailing? Try another cruise that only requires you to pay and observe the sights of the water. To find the cruise that’s right for you, head to www.watermarkcruises.com. Schooner Woodwind doesn’t feature any specialty cruises that are still open this week, but they too have easygoing sails around Annapolis waters. Peruse their offerings via the following link: www.schoonerwoodwind.com.

Annapolis Green

Aside from the meetings on green progress and initiatives in the area this week, there is a green event ideal for families and outdoorsy types. The Patuxent Riverkeeper sponsors this hike, paddle, and picnic at 10:30 a.m. from the Merkle State Wildlife Sanctuary. This event is completely free and open to all. Head to www.annapolisgreen.com to learn more.

Annapolis History

This Monday, June 17 marks the beginning of “History Mondays” with Schooner Woodwind. These summer-long sails marry the joy of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay with learning a bit of Annapolis history. The sails depart from the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel at 6:30 p.m. Each Monday sail features a different historical topic; this week’s topic is (very appropriately) sailing. Molly Winans, editor of SpinSheet Magazine will retell the history of yacht clubs and sailing schools in the area. Tickets cost $42 for adults, $40 for ages 60 and above, and $27 for kids 12 and under. Head to www.annapolis.org to purchase your ticket.

Annapolis Art

Annapolis Collection Gallery on West Street features a few noteworthy events in the latter part of the week. First up, photographer/musician/painter Bill Payne will entertain guests on the 20th with an exclusive view of his collection at Annapolis Collection Gallery. Attendees are awarded the chance to see the exhibit from 10:30 p.m. to midnight before it opens to the public the next day. As you probably figured, the next big thing at Annapolis Collection Gallery is the opening night of Payne’s exhibit entitled “Tracing Footsteps.” This event is free and open to everyone. Come at 9 p.m. and hear what inspired Payne.

Finally, June 21 is also the date of Gallery Row, a famous art event in downtown Annapolis. Peruse works featured at various art galleries, listen to the live music, enjoy some food, and walk the red carpet. This event begins at 8 p.m. Head to www.annapoliscollection.com to read more about these artsy affairs.

Annapolis Families

At Chesapeake Children’s Museum, kids have the chance to act, create, and use imagination to the fullest. Starting this Monday, June 17, kids can partake in “Musical Mondays,” a program that runs through summer. In this program, kids learn to craft their own instruments, play instruments, and dance to the rhythm. This program lasts from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and is free with admission to the museum.

Also at the CCM, kids and parents can join in the soapy fun at the Bubble Festival. This festival is scheduled for two days: Friday and Saturday, June 21 and 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Blow some cool bubbles, pop a friend’s bubble, and enjoy this inexpensive summertime activity. Both days are free with museum admission.

Finally, all little ladies and gentlemen are invited to the CCM’s “Summer Tea Party” on Sunday, June 23. This is a picnic affair, so bring a blanket, basket full of goodies, and even some games to enjoy outdoors. The CCM will provide iced tea and lemonade.
