Between cruising with fido, rocking at Bands in the Sand, and taking dad out, this week in Annapolis is quite eventful. See what’s offered and enjoy this week to the fullest.

Annapolis Entertainment

It’s another week of entertaining live performances, starting off with 42nd Street, presented by Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre. Haven’t caught the performance yet? It focuses on a struggling Broadway producer who thinks his new performance will wow. The trouble is that the show faces challenges along the way, he becomes involved, and more drama ensues. The show ends on June 21. Tickets are available online at www.summergarden.com.

This next new performance, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, is put on by The Colonial Players and is sure to keep the audience guessing. The synopsis on the site, http://tickets.colonialplayers.org, is lengthy, but the long and short of it involves a woman who picks up a dead man’s cell phone and becomes entangled in his affairs. This is a soul-searching kind of performance, but one that is also interwoven with drama and interest. For more, go to the site above. The show opens on June 13.

The end of the workweek often warrants rewinding with good music. This Friday, Maryland Hall offers the chance to relax with the contemporary folk sounds of Shenandoah Run. The group is comprised of nine musicians with various stringed instruments. The show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are available via www.marylandhall.org.

Here’s a very unique and exciting opportunity: documentary story quilting at the Bates Legacy Center in Annapolis. This event happens on June 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. and is the first installment in a summer-long hands-on documentary story quilting series. Dr. Joan Gaither, master quilter, will instruct this free series. Learn more at http://fourriversheritage.org.

Yet another unique event happening this week is the 2nd Annual Dog Days of Summer Cruise with Watermark, scheduled for Thursday. This cruise permits friendly dogs and owners of the area to cruise (yes, even the dogs cruise!) aboard the Harbor Queen with food, dog-friendly pools, a silent auction, and more to raise funds for the Anne Arundel County SPCA. The cruise costs $30 for adults and nothing for dogs. Book this popular cruise at http://cruisesonthebay.com before it sells out!

Shady Side isn’t too far from Annapolis and it’s a good thing too–the RiverFest 2014 event is scheduled in Shady Side this Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. RiverFest welcomes all to enjoy a taste of the Bay, live music, old-fashioned traditions, and the natural beauty at Discovery Village. The price is $10 per person, with proceeds going to West/Rhode Riverkeeper organization. Learn more about this community fundraiser at http://fourriversheritage.org.

Saturday also marks the date of another community-wide celebration, this one in Pasadena. The Magothy River Day event celebrates the beauty and preservation efforts of the Magothy with food, music, and more. The event is free and kids are welcome. The event is held from noon to 5 p.m. Head to www.annapolisgreen.com to learn more.

The biggest outdoor fundraiser, though, has got to be Bands in the Sand, also happening on Saturday. This event is the highlight of early summer not only because it brings together fun-loving community members, but because it welcomes a blend of great music and the beach. Located at the Philip Merrill Environmental Center in Annapolis, this event runs from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets cost $100 each and include all you can eat and drink. Read more at www.annapolisgreen.com.

Father’s Day is this Sunday and to celebrate, the William Paca House and Garden staff invite those over 21 to toast dad, stroll the gardens, and taste old-style dishes. The admission is $30 per person. The event happens on Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. To read more, head to www.annapolis.org.

Another exceptional way to celebrate dad is with the Father’s Day Brunch cruise from Schooner Woodwind. This one features delectable food, cocktails, and the freedom of the open water. Cruising around the area for three hours with dad will make a lasting impression. Adult tickets cost $86. Book this cruise, which sails from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at www.schoonerwoodwind.com.
