This week in March welcomes entertainment for opera lovers, live rock music enthusiasts, play goers, beer drinkers, and green go-getters. Get out and experience the best of Annapolis!

Annapolis Entertainment

The entertainment scene in Annapolis thrives thanks to the arts. One of the great venues, Compass Rose Theatre, opens a classic performance this week–Romeo and Juliet. This great Shakespeare play opens on March 14. Purchase tickets on www.compassrosetheatre.org.

Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts welcomes a romantic opera by the great Giacomo Puccini. La Boheme tells the story of young love, art, and reunion amidst a Parisian backdrop. The opera spans two nights–Friday, March 14, and Sunday, March 16. The show on Friday begins at 8 p.m.; Sunday’s show begins at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $77. Visit www.marylandhall.org to learn more.

Music, whether it’s delivered in the form of an opera or via a live rock performance, is integral to Annapolis fun. Rams Head brings their own style (and not to mention great musicians!) to the scene. Monday, it’s another round of “Wine & Cocktails” at 6:30 p.m. for $35. Tuesday, Royal Southern Brotherhood featuring Devon Allman, Cyril Neville, and Mike Zito perform at 8 p.m. for $29.50. Average White Band brings a subjective R&B sound to the stage at 8 p.m. This show costs $37.50. The Oak Ridge Boys perform at 6 and 9 p.m. on Friday. Each show costs $55. Mac McAnally performs for $40 on Saturday at 7 p.m. Sunday brings Larry Braggs & The Sideguys featuring Davy Knowles. The tickets cost $29.50. A dinner and drinks package is also available. This group goes on stage at 7 p.m. Rams Head online has more info.

Just as much as the arts contributes to the exciting entertainment scene here, so do the local traditions. This week, you have The Eastport Democratic Club’s Annual Green Beer Races to look forward to. Happening on March 15, these races are an Irish tradition open to all. Events like women’s keg toss, kids kool-aid races, and bar relays make this event so special. As the name indicates, plenty of beer will be present. The Green Beer Races kick off at noon at the Eastport Democratic Club. Go to www.eastportdc.com to read more.

Annapolis Green

Here’s a once in a blue moon kind of performance: Annapolis Maritime Museum in Eastport presents a lecture on raptors of the Chesapeake Bay. This educational yet entertaining lecture will be led by Craig Koopie, a Raptor Biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Koopie’s lecture takes place on Thursday, March 13 at 7 p.m. The cost is $10. Bring the kids!

If prehistoric knowledge isn’t your thing, you can enjoy the 5th Annual Davidsonville Green Expo on Saturday, March 15. The expo brings together vendors with products and services, children’s green activities, free stuff, and tons of informative literature. This expo is essentially everything green–from recycling to energy use in the home. Admission is free. Davidsonville Elementary School hosts this event. The expo lasts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To learn about these green events, visit www.annapolisgreen.com.
