Annapolis features live entertainment, St. Patrick’s Day fun, Eastport community events, Maryland Day festivities, historical events, and even events for going-greeners.
Annapolis Entertainment
Downtown Annapolis may have celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with an awesome parade last weekend, but this week brings two St. Pat’s-inspired events that also take place in Annapolis. The first is quite informal: bars downtown will decorate and offer St. Patrick’s Day specials on Monday. The second is a musical event offered by Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. The “Legends of the Celtic Harp” performance is exactly what it sounds like–three masterful harpers perform Celtic tunes and even provide a bit of humor and folklore. This event is scheduled for Thursday, March 20 at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $20. Visit www.marylandhall.org to read more.
After St. Patrick’s Day festivities end, another big event comes your way–Maryland Day. This three-day-long celebration of our great state features family-friendly and inexpensive entertainment all throughout Annapolis. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (March 21-23) welcome events like aquatic life interactive workshops, Native American exhibits, African American history exhibits, and even arts and crafts. Most notably, the flag-raising ceremony occurs on Saturday at 10 a.m., complete with music by Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corps and USNA’s League of Cadets of Training Ship Mercedes. Most Maryland Day events either cost $1 or are free. For more about Maryland Day’s history and events, head to www.annapolis.com.
Eating oysters? Yes. Burning Socks? Also yes! The Annapolis Maritime Museum’s 4th Annual Oyster Roast and Sock Burning makes both of these activities possible. The Annapolis community is invited to the waterfront campus of the maritime museum to sample oyster dishes, vote for the favorite, listen to live music, socialize, and–in keeping the museum’s tradition alive–burn old socks to signify the coming of spring! To see ticket prices and what else is offered, visit www.annapolis.com.
If you keep up with the USNA Music Department, you know that the men and women’s glee clubs have been touring the country, offering their sound to the ears of Southern and Western states. The women’s glee club is back home, ready to perform for Annapolis! The “home” concert takes place at the USNA Main Chapel on Friday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are required for this springy music affair. Go to www.usna.edu/Music to learn more.
The classic love story, Romeo and Juliet, continues on stage at the Compass Rose Theater until April 20. The play follows Shakespeare’s original and is sure to please. Tickets are available on www.compassrosetheater.org.

Annapolis History
With warmer weather coming our way, the historical tours and outdoor events inspired by Annapolis history will increase. Notice the increase this week with Historic Annapolis Museum’s “Small Rooms of Wonder Show and Tell.” This event allows guests to peruse miniature houses at the museum store for free. This event is open until noon. Go to www.annapolis.org to read more about these miniature wonders.
Maryland Day, as described at the top, is another example of Annapolis history coming alive for the public to see. Watermark Tours gets in on this outdoorsy fun with a War of 1812 tour specifically for Maryland Day and a “Four Centuries” walking tour, both on Saturday. The centuries tour covers a broader span of Annapolis history whereas the War of 1812 tour features specific info about this moment in history. Both tours begin at 10:30 a.m. The centuries tour is offered again that day at 1:30 and also on Sunday at the same times. Go to http://annapolistours.com.
