Classic entertainment at local venues never goes out of style. This Friday, March 22, the USNA hosts a spring organ recital by Mr. Monte Maxwell. Enjoy the lovely melodies and upbeat sounds of spring at 7:30 at the USNA Main Chapel. Tickets can be purchased on the USNA Music Department’s site, http://www.usna.edu/Music/index.html.
At The Colonial Players, there is a play that opens this week. This musical performance is both historical and entertaining. The musical, 1776, centers on the founding fathers, Declaration of Independence, and the pivotal points that led to the formation of our country in the 18th century. Speaking of history, Annapolis and some surrounding areas get a dose of Maryland love this weekend thanks to Maryland Day. 49 West Coffeehouse is a long-established coffeehouse of choice for numerous Annapolitans and visitors lucky enough to stumble upon it. The entertainment this week starts with 12 singer/songwriters from 7:30 to 11 p.m. The show costs $12. Tuesday, Unified Jazz Ensemble performs acoustic, soulful, thoughtful jazz from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. for $6. Wednesday, Starr’s Jazz Jams returns to the stage at 7 p.m. for a show that costs $10. Thursday, Fred Hughes performs jazz tunes at 8 p.m. for $10. Friday, 49 West trades jazz for folk music with help from Judy Cook. Cook serenades the crowd with folk for two shows: 7 and 9 p.m. The shows costs $15. On Saturday, the entertainment turns Americana/roots with The Basement Band. This group plays two shows, one at 7:30 and the next at 9:30 p.m. Each show costs $10. Sunday, Swing Brothers perform at 4 for free; Pillowbrook brings sweet, cool jazz to the coffeehouse for $6 at 8:30; and lastly, Jonathan Stone performs at 10 a.m. For these performances and more, head to http://49westcoffeehouse.com.
Annapolis Green
Greening is all the more appropriate now that spring has hit. This week, green events include: Green Drinks, educational events, and more. Green Drinks kicks off on Wednesday, March 20. This going-green social event takes place at Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Learn about fellow green enthusiasts for free. Also on Wednesday, Bethesda Green hosts “Everything you Need to Know about Sustainable DC,” an event that teaches participants about health, green practices, and much more for living healthy, green, and safe. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Also on Wednesday, Quiet Waters Park hosts an environmental seminar that lectures on the impacts of climate change. The whole event is free and open to all.
