What’s new in Annapolis? Ever heard of the USNA Band’s Annual Side by Side Concert? It’s coming up this week, on Thursday, April 3. This unique performance sees the USNA Band team up with local high school musicians on stage for a musical mix-up. Severna Park High School hosts this event. Maryland Hall and St. Anne’s Church team up to bring you a performance that catalogs seminal works by Eastern European composers. St. Anne’s Church hosts this installment of Live Arts Maryland with “The Spirit Soars.” Enjoy hearing this European works performed by Annapolis Chorale and Annapolis Chamber Orchestra. Annapolis Symphony Orchestra puts on its own performance at Maryland Hall Friday and Saturday, at 8 p.m. both nights. “Regional Reflections” takes attendees on a musical journey through the music of Bartok, Dvorak, and many other greats. Rams Head features another round of new and exciting musicians this week, starting with Hugh Masekela, a jazz musician. This show begins at 7 p.m. and costs $39.50. Wednesday, The Lone Bellow performs for $28 at 7 p.m. Friday, Over the Rhine performs at 8 p.m. for $30. Saturday, Charo comes to the stage at 7:30 p.m. for $59.50. From music to musicals, Annapolis has everything! The Compass Rose Theatre hosts what many would consider the greatest play ever written–William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet–this week. Last week was the start of Watermark’s cruises. This opening is indicative of warmer weather to come, so celebrate this week with a cruise! April 2 through the rest of the week, there is a 40-minute cruise around the Annapolis Harbor and Naval Academy available each day. Times vary by day with most cruises available early afternoon. This event is quite flexible as it simply encourages community members to clean up any outdoor space–be it the backyard or a park. Bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it. Annapolis Families

Children and parents alike can enjoy this next event: Children’s Theatre of Annapolis’s Pippi Longstocking. This short performance opens this week on April 4 and runs until April 13. The play features a lovable, carefree, and comical freckle-faced girl who possesses supernatural strength and quite a bit of money (despite the fact that she lives with her pet horse and monkey).
