Annapolis is known for being environmentally friendly. However, a recent study determined that the residents of Annapolis may not recycle as much as they should. Neighboring cities and towns, like Harwood, Grambrills, Glen Burnie, and Severna Park, all recycle more than Annapolitans.
Annapolis has many green initiatives and eco-friendly achievements under its belt. The land preservation and clean air programs are some of the best in the state. The environmental education programs are ongoing and beneficial. The recycling study showed that approximately only 16% of Annapolis residents trash is actually recycled. The norm for the county is 38% of trash is recycled.
The statistics show that the Annapolis recycling program needs to be tweaked to run more smoothly and efficiently. Members of the Annapolis Environmental Commission say that they are planning to create and launch an education program in the spring.
An improved recycling program in Annapolis would benefit the lifestyles of those who call the city home. With such great “green†eco-friendly initiatives and residents, a better recycling program is expected to catch on in no time.
