The last bits of 2013 approach this week, but not to fear–Annapolis is celebrating the season! The big feast (Thanksgiving) not only comes this week, but so do opportunities to partake in great downtown community events, spend time out and about with the kids, and perhaps catch some exciting live entertainment. As you’ll see below, it’s all in Annapolis.
Annapolis Community
‘Tis the season for Grand Illumination. This community-wide event is ideal for families as it is free and requires no RSVP. Truthfully, this event acts as a catalyst for the holiday season to commence, and is regarded as one of the most anticipatory events in downtown. The Christmas tree in Market Space will light up around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 1. Pets are also welcome as the event is outside, though please remember this event will be well-attended. The Annapolis Business Association link below will provide more information about Grand Illumination.
Small Business Saturday, a nationwide movement that brings together the community and the local business owners there, takes place in Annapolis on November 30. Downtown, West Annapolis, and Eastport will be buzzing with shoppers, diners, and those who enjoy the entertaining things this area has to offer. There is no pass or ticket needed for this event–just show love to your local businesses! This officially begins at 10 a.m. The Annapolis Business Association has more information on this topic.
Annapolis Entertainment
Rams Head on Stage presents a well-rounded group of performances this week, starting with Blues Traveler on Monday. This group begins at 8 p.m. and is categorized as pop/blues. The performance costs $75. Friday, Dream Discs, a musical event that weaves together Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, and The Innocent & The E Street, visits the stage. This show starts at 8 p.m. and costs $25. Saturday, Peter Noone performs “Herman’s Hermits” at 6 and 9 p.m. Each show costs $42.50. For more on these performances, visit Rams Head.
Annie, the heart-warming performance from The Colonial Players, is still in session this week. The play follows the same general plot as the one established in the novel and movie from decades ago. Watch this play with family for an especially wholesome experience. Go to The Colonial Players to learn more about this play and reserve your ticket.
Annapolis Kids
Just in time for Thanksgiving and holiday feasts, kids can gain the skills needed to create culinary masterpieces. “Cooking Camp” takes place at the Chesapeake Children’s Museum this Monday to Wednesday, November 25 to 27. The hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids will learn to make several dishes from a professional. The price is $40 per child. Ages 9-11 are encouraged to attend.
For a more family-friendly event on the weekend, try out the “Gift-making Workshop,” also put on by the CCM. This workshop, scheduled on December 1, allows children to craft, draw, and sketch out gift ideas for the upcoming holiday season. Materials will be provided. The price is only $5 per child. All children above the age of one are invited to join. To learn more about these family-friendly events, head to Chesapeake Children’s Museum online.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
