Despite the nor’easter that’s clung to the East Coast for the past week, Annapolis still plans for great entertainment. There is music, theatre shows, and family-friendly fun scheduled that’s calling your name.

Navy’s Music Department continues their musical quest to inspire the greater Annapolis area with a performance this Saturday, October 19. USNA Pipes and Drums is set to play for the Royal Military College of Canada Pipes and Drums at Mahan Hall at 5 p.m. There are no tickets required and the public is invited. Live theatre performances from Children’s Theatre of Annapolis always please. This week, the theatre continue their acclaimed performance entitled Snow White: A Grimm Brothers Fairy Tale. Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts hosts a Ballet Theatre of Maryland performance this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Beauty and the Beast, the classic tale, will be retold set to movements of the body and music. Friday’s performance begins at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday’s performance starts at 7 p.m.; and Sunday’s show begins at 2 p.m. The price is $34.50 for adults and $15.50 for kids under 10. From land to bay, Annapolis continues to wow with new entertainment. The Chesapeake Schooner Race Cruise is scheduled for this Thursday, October 17. This race is a long-standing tradition and as such, allows you to sail to the start of the race and around the Bay. Drinks and snacks are available on board to enhance the fun. The price is $49 per adult and $29 per child. The sail departs at 11:30 a.m.
Another easy way to enjoy the fall weather while cruising is aboard Schooner Woodwind for a lighthouse and fall foliage tour. This cruise sells out quickly and has been extended to accommodate its popularity. Annapolis History
With Halloween right around the corner, it’s no wonder downtown Annapolis is getting spook-i-fied this Friday, October 18. Historic Annapolis Museum teams up with William Paca House and Watermark Tours to bring you “Historic Hauntings Tour,” more specifically known as a haunted, mysterious tour of the Paca House. Guests are taken through the grounds and abandoned rooms to learn about Annapolis’s spooky past. Tickets cost $20 per adult and $14 per child under 12. Touring begins at 7:30 p.m. Can’t make Friday night? The same tour recurs on Saturday night at the same time. Go to www.annapolis.org to learn more.
A non-haunted event at the William Paca House is also scheduled for Friday. Local painter Jean Brinton Jaecks will lead a workshop in painting the fall season with the Paca House as a backdrop. Brinton Jaecks will instruct about painting techniques and utilizing natural light. The price is $75 per person. Annapolis Green
Green opportunities near Annapolis carry out the sailing theme. First up, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center offers a canoe excursion at 9 a.m. from the location in Edgewater this Saturday. The price is $14 for adults and $7 for kids. Also on Saturday, the Stanley Norman Skipjack (pictured above) presents a rare opportunity to sail aboard and peruse views of the Bay. In celebration of Fossil Day–October 16–The Chesapeake Children’s Museum hosts “Fun with Fossils” from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Kids above the age of three can learn how fossils are made and make their own to take home. The cost is $5 per person. For more on this event and the one below, head to CCM’s site.
In celebration of fall, the CCM puts on “Harvest Hootenanny” on Sunday, October 20. This harvest festival provides families with hay rides, farm animals in a petting zoo, pumpkin painting, and even scarecrow making. This festival is free with museum admission. The “hootenanny” runs from noon to 4 p.m .
