Multiple green events, ghost tours, live entertainment, plays, musicals, and film screenings all take center stage this week in Annapolis.

There’s just something about children’s entertainment that puts a smile on your face; perhaps it’s watching kids goof around on stage takes you back to simpler times. Regardless, this week, Children’s Theatre of Annapolis provides the chance to laugh with kids at an old favorite: Get Smart. This play centers on a goofy yet lovable spy. There’s a play geared for adults too this week: Master Harold and the Boys by Bay Theatre. This play focuses on South Africa during an apartheid. This week at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, the entertainment goes international. Runaway, a film by Amit Ashraf, is available for viewing this Tuesday at 7 p.m. The film follows runaways who flock to Dhaka, a crowded city, that provided the perfect paradise for their escape. The ticket price not only includes a viewing of the film, but free popcorn and a glass of wine. Tickets cost $10 each, or $7 for members. Bring a friend, have some wine, and learn. Music will always a beloved form of entertainment, a truth Ram’s Head knows and is founded on. Celebrate music’s transcendence this Monday with Jimmy Thackery, a blues singer, at 8 p.m. The show costs $21.50. Tuesday, pop/country crooners Rodney Crowell and Danielle Miraglia, take the stage at 8 p.m. Ticket cost is $39.50. Wednesday, Ram’s Head gets a shot of international flair with Middle Eastern/African group Tinariwen. See Tinariwen for $30 at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Tower of Power entertains at 8 p.m. Tower of Power is an R&B/funk music group. The cost per show is $40. Saturday, Livingston Taylor brings his folk/pop to the stage at 8 p.m. See Taylor for $35. Saturday, Ram’s Head hosts its own American Idol, rock band style. Saturday showcases some of Priddy Music Academy’s talent in “Battle of the Bands.” The show is open to all ages and costs $13. Encourage new talent and maybe discover your own. 49 West Coffeehouse is no stranger to the lulls and beats of musical entertainment. This Monday, they feature twelve singer/songwriters at their location on West Street at 7:30 p.m. The cover charge is $12. Tuesday, Unified Jazz Ensemble performs at 8:30 p.m. This jazz group charges $6. Wednesday, Starr’s Jazz Jam returns at 7 p.m. The cover charge is $10. Thursday, Rob Levit performs on guitars at 8:30 p.m. The cover charge is $6. Friday, Sean Lane & The Bay Jazz Project bring eclectic jazz to the stage for two shows: 7 and 9 p.m. Each show costs $10. Saturday, John Jensen returns to play and sing the blues at 5 p.m. There is no cover to see Jensen. Also on Saturday, hear a tribute to Bob Dylan at either 7:30 or 9 p.m. The cover charge is $10. Sunday, there are three musical acts from which to choose. First up, Jonathan Stone, sings coffeehouse/international music at 10 a.m. for free. At 4 pm., Jenn, Larry & Pete bring instruments to the stage for laidback jams. There is no cover for this performance either. Annapolis Green

How often are you awarded the opportunity to kayak and canoe all in one day? This Saturday, South River Federation presents the chance to kayak at 10 a.m. around Beard’s Creek and small creeks around South River. Bring a camera, binoculars, and warm clothes. After the scenic kayak trip, there is a picnic at noon. You can bring your own kayak or rent one from Annapolis Canoe & Kayak (there are specials that pertain to this trip). If kayaking isn’t up your alley, try canoeing with Smithsonian Environmental Research Center at Muddy Creek and Rhode River. The cost is $14 for adults and $7 for kids. The canoe trip begins at 9 a.m.

More exercise? How about participating in the “Pindell Stream Walk” hosted by Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary this Sunday? Walk along the stream and learn about tides and the natural habitat. Attendees should wear comfortable, old shoes or preferably, rubber boots. The walk goes from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Annapolis History

Ghost tours continue this week, and are especially appropriate as we move closer to Halloween. Inspire fun this week with tours led by a colonial from Annapolis Historic Museum’s store downtown. These tours run Friday and Saturday.

Annapolis Families
Here’s an event that is ideal for parents with young girls: “The Dancing Princesses” performance by the Ballet Theatre of Maryland at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. The ballet follows Darien, who makes it his mission to discover where dancing princesses escape to at night. Darien must also save princesses from the evil Goblin Queen. The light-hearted, romanticized ballet runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday and Saturday, the performance begins at 7 p.m. Sunday, the performance starts at 2 p.m. and includes a princess party at 1 p.m. Learn more and find tickets here.
