Annapolis–and Navy in particular–has a lot to celebrate this week. This Sunday kicks off the beginning of Navy’s Birthday celebration, complete with special tours at the Naval Academy and musical performances. Other non-Navy events are scheduled too; peruse the offerings below.
Annapolis Entertainment
Navy’s football team battles against Air Force football this Saturday, October 5, from 11:30 a.m. The game is home for Navy, hosted at the Navy Marine Corps Stadium. If the theatre is more your scene, attend Communicating Doors, a performance by The Colonial Players. This dramatic show takes viewers on a journey through discovery about a married man’s past that’s not expected. A young professional dominatrix discovers this man’s past that’s full of mystery, murder, and ex-wives. Tickets are available on the following link.
The Chesapeake Children’s Museum is known for putting on family-friendly events but is also cherished for the annual “Dreams Can Come True” dinner auction gala coming this Friday, October 4. The dinner, auction, and gala raise funds for children’s programs. The Loews Hotel hosts this classy affair from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are required. To obtain your ticket, head to the CCM’s site.
Schooner Woodwind hosts a quite upscale yet relaxing sail this Sunday, October 6. This sail presents guests with impeccable Bay views, brunch with pastries and savory dishes, and champagne cocktails. In the quaint neighborhood of West Annapolis, Saturday sidewalk sales continue through the fall season from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. No tickets or passes are required. Peruse what’s out on the street and invest in the local economy. West Annapolis Business Association offers more information.
At Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Karter James is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. on October 3. James is renowned for his acoustics and has even been nominated for a Grammy. His style is R&B and his show costs $15 for the general public. For more on this event, go to Maryland Hall.
Annapolis Green
Going green pairs seamlessly with social events. Experience the mutual relationship this Wednesday, October 2, by attending the Parole Community Eco-Fair located at Spa Creek at 2 Hicks Avenue. This fair awards the community with the chance to help children learn about environmental activities and causes through hands-on activities and green demonstrations. Speaking of sociable green events, the epitome of green socials–Green Drinks– is scheduled for this Thursday, October 3. This month’s Green Drinks is themed after the upcoming Annapolis Boat Shows, allowing guests to learn about boat show exhibitors, Red Light Recycle!, and the health of Annapolis waters. This event is totally free and open to all. The location for Green Drinks is the Fleet Reserve Club on Compromise Street; the time is 5:30 p.m.
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation inspires youth to get involved with green Bay initiatives this week with their Youth Fall Fest, scheduled for this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Fourth graders and older can learn about CBF’s involvement in the community and what they can do to improve the health of the Bay. Tickets cost $5 per person. CBF on Herndon Avenue hosts this event.
Annapolis History
Just because Halloween is at the end of the month doesn’t mean ghost tours and ghoul-like things can’t commence. Watermark Tours teams up with Annapolis Historic Foundation this Friday, October 4 to bring you a haunted tour around downtown Annapolis. Some of the haunted sites include beloved spots, like the William Paca House. The touring continues on Saturday at well.
