Just a quick trip from Annapolis is the National Harbor waterfront complex. “Christmas on the Potomac†kicks off in fine form with the opening of this year’s ICE! Festival, starring The Grinch himself, in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.â€
ICE!, the annual must-visit extravaganza at the Gaylord National, this year brings to life the 1957 Dr. Seuss holiday classic, featuring 10 colorful scenes straight out of the pages of the original storybook. Instead of turning the pages though, you’ll walk through two million pounds of ice sculpted into larger-than-life scenes that re-create one of Dr. Seuss’s favorite stories.
Dr. Seuss fans—young and not-so-young alike—will also enjoy the museum-quality exhibit of Dr. Seuss articats and memorabilia. And “From Harbin to WHO-ville†tells the story of the making of ICE! and the Chinese artists themselves, the same artisans who build magnificent displays at the world-famous Harbin Ice Festival and who traveled to the Gaylord National to create this jaw-dropping (and very chilly!) holiday treat.
There’s lots more to do at ICE!, including ice skating, “Breakfast with the Grinch,†“A Christmas to Remember†Musical Dinner Show, Brunch with Santa, and a nightly choreographed water show to favorite holiday music…and much more!
