As America prepares to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, Green Drinks Annapolis is gearing up for another networking event that caters to anyone who is passionate about the environment, or who would like to be more so.
On Wednesday, April 23, the Loews Annapolis Hotel on West Street will host the latest Green Drinks function that combines eco-awareness with good times and good people. Annapolis Green, the coordinators of Green Drinks Annapolis, is an organization dedicated to connecting the community by communicating a meaningful, positive, motivational message, and encouraging residents, businesses, and government to engage in eco-friendly practices. One way it drives its mission forward is through group happy hours that give environmentally minded people the chance to become acquainted in a fun, informal way in hopes they can work together for their common cause.
This month’s gathering, called ‘Every-Day-is-Earth-Day’, will focus on the issue of climate change as the happy hour will be sponsored by the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN)- the first grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to fighting global warming in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
The host of Wednesday’s Green Drinks happy hour, the Loews Annapolis Hotel, is a highly active member of the local green community in its own right, and is certified by Maryland Green Travel- a statewide initiative designed to reduce the environmental impact of Maryland tourism. Maryland Green Travel is “a voluntary, self-certification program that recognizes tourism businesses committed to improving their operations in order to reduce their environmental impact.” To maintain membership, the Loews sets goals and takes action to demonstrate sustainable practices, such as recycling, water conservation, minimizing disposable food service items, waste reduction, energy efficiency, and more.
WEST Kitchen and Tavern, which is located inside of the Loews and is also a member of Maryland Green Travel, is a modern interpretation of a classic shore tavern that serves unique food preparations made with fresh ingredients. WEST will be providing food for the ‘Every-Day-is-Earth-Day happy hour in the form of appetizers crafted from local, sustainable products.
The Every-Day-is-Earth-Day happy hour is aimed at bringing the environmental message shared by Annapolis Green, CCAN, the Loews, and WEST to new audiences as a way to spread awareness throughout the community. If you are a supporter of green causes, or would like to learn more, be sure to stop by the Loews this Wednesday for your chance to speak with and learn from people who share your passion. The Green Drinks event takes place from 5:30-7:30 and there is no cost to attend but a cash bar will be available
