Plenty of holiday events here in Annapolis are recurring ones: the Eastport Yacht Club’s Lights Parade, Midnight Madness, and Sandy Point’s light show. Even more long-standing than these cherished events is the Hammond-Harwood House Greens Sale. This is the 57th year of the sale and it’s sure to be as prized as when it began. We detail the sale, what it includes, and when you should go.

So what is the sale?

Allison Titman, Assistant Director and Curator at Hammond-Harwood House, explains that wreaths and tabletop decorations made of boxwoods with holly and eucalyptus are for sale. The holiday decorations are made by garden club members, proving that this is a true community effort.

What’s the purpose of the sale?

This sale is a fundraiser that goes to fund the Hammond-Harwood House’s events and museum. This holiday event is vital for the Hammond-Harwood because it brings community member traffic to the historic site, but also provides the Hammond-Harwood Association with the means to keep the house up and running.

Any other festive features?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs to keep the theme of historic holidays, the Hammond-Harwood House is decorated in an international Christmas theme. Each room’s decorative style reflects decorations from various countries. The garden club is responsible for decking the halls. Titman encourages the community to enjoy tours of the house Tuesday through Sunday noon to 4 p.m. The last tour begins at 3 p.m. After touring, purchase a wreath or tabletop to remember the experience all holiday-season long.

What else do you need to know?

The greens sale continues through December 31, every day but Monday. Prices of wreaths and tabletop decorations range from $30 to $60. Titman reminds us that since the greens are made of boxwoods, they will last at least a few weeks. These wreaths will survive longer in cool, dry weather.
