Every once in awhile, philanthropic events combine the great outdoors with a party to benefit a certain organization or person. Well, Annapolis, this kind of beneficial fun is coming to you! “Melissa’s Ride” is an benefit that happens tomorrow, June 9. The “ride” portion of this event invites anybody with a motorcycle or classic car to ride from the Annapolis Harley Davidson (30 Hudson Street) at 10:30 a.m. to Red Eyes Dock Bar (428 Kent Narrow Way, Grasonville MD 21638) and then, to The Whiskey (1803 West Street, Annapolis) at 3 p.m. After all that riding, those who participate are surely to be hungry and ready to shimmy off their motorcycle cramps. To help aid the hunger and cramps, The Whiskey hosts an after party! There will be bands, drinks, food, and fun people to socialize with! Registration for the ride is $15. Don’t have a bike? Meet afterward at The Whiskey to participate in the raffle, auction, and other excitement!

Now that you know about the fun part, we’ll cover the background. The ride benefits Melissa Smith, who battled Hodgkins Lymphona not once but twice. Miraculously, Smith beat the cruel disease both times but now has a rare neurological disorder that penetrates her spine. Naturally, without a properly functioning spinal cord, walking and movement in general becomes cumbersome. Since mobility is almost completely limited, Smith cannot work and lives on the proceeds raised from this ride. She’s thankful for the help but is counting on 2012’s success!

Interested in the ride? Head to Harley Davidson in Annapolis at 10:30 to register. The after party requires a $10 cover charge. Bring cash for the raffles, drinks, food, merchandise, and more!

Come support Melissa Smith this Saturday by enjoying the warm weather, wind in your face, and a party afterward!
