Demolition of the Mexican Café began on October 2nd of this year and is still underway. The restaurant building was knocked-down by bulldozers and a CVS pharmacy is going to be build on the old café site.
The restaurant was affectionately known for their sour margaritas and wallet-friendly Mexican food. The last day of business for the Mexican Café was on September 28th. The Annapolis Neck Peninsula lot has been under construction since.
The Mexican Café was located on Bay Ridge Road for 17 years. The turquoise and pink building was a popular place to hang out in Annapolis. If it was one of your favorite places to dine, don’t worry. The Café plans to move across town to the former Northwoods Restaurant building located as 609 Melvin Avenue.
The new located has already been approved for a Maryland liquor license and is expected to open later this month. The owners haven’t officially scheduled an opening date, but think that the renovation process is going smoothly. Mexican Café owner, Pam Gladfelter, said to her loyal customers, “We have enjoyed serving you throughout these many years and hope you will come and visit us when we begin our new journey.â€
Many customers of the café are excited for their taco place to reopen. Michelle Smith Malkin moved away from the Annapolis area and said, “I would never come back for a visit to Annapolis without going to the Mexican Café.â€
We hope that the new Mexican Café is as cozy and eclectic as the last. Celebrate Mexico with a margarita at the new café when it opens. Hopefully many of the loyal customers who’ve enjoyed hanging out at the Bay Ridge location will travel across town and enjoy the café’s new location.
Actually, the Cafe was not razed until October 15th and the new opening is not later this month but sometime in November.
Thanks for updating us!
