New Year’s is the perfect complement to the end-of-the-year holidays–it presents the chance to carry a celebratory attitude into the new year. Annapolis hosts several New Year’s events pre and post the start of 2014. In congruence with the events, many hotels run deals to encourage you and visiting family and friends to extend celebrating. We provide the best of New Year’s happenings–community events, performances, and hotel deals–below.
New Year’s Community Events
Downtown Annapolis is surely the place to be to ring in the New Year, and more specifically, City Dock is the hot spot. City Dock will launch two sets of fireworks–one around 7 p.m. and the other at midnight on December 31. Aside from the fireworks shows, families can enjoy appropriate entertainment early in the afternoon until the first fireworks show:
– 3 p.m.: Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corps performs “Pied Piper” from Market House
–3-7 p.m.: Chesapeake Children’s Museum encourages children to get in on the green spirit with free crafting and creating from household items; face painting is also offered
–4:30-5 p.m.: Jack Julius performs his mystical, magical show ideal for young ones and adults
–5:30-6:30 p.m.: Live upbeat music straight from the tropics will be played
Between the fireworks shows, City Dock hosts music and open space for dancing. The community events above neither require payment nor pass.
New Year’s Performances
Perhaps the smartest way to enjoy New Year’s Eve without braving the cold is to celebrate with live performances inside downtown establishments.
Rams Head on West Street offers a great New Year’s performance entitled “Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Extravaganza” featuring The Deanna Bogart Band. Bogart’s Band is celebrated for their upbeat bluesy and boogie shows. The performance isn’t just music though–Rams Head brings in a dance floor too. Along with dancing, enjoy the appetizers, buffet dinner, dessert, and midnight champagne toast. This package deal costs $114 per person. If interested, book online at Rams Head.
Metropolitan hosts their own New Year’s Eve bash with live music by Jah Works and Real Dirt, a midnight buffet, and ice shot, and a champagne toast for only $15. Purchase your ticket online at Metropolitan Annapolis and you’ll save $5.
Plenty of downtown restaurants and even those around the Naval Academy bridge like Severn Inn host specials too: buffets, discounts, and great camaraderie complemented by great views of the fireworks. Check your favorite Annapolitan establishment for New Year’s deals.
