(August 4, 2016– On Thursday, August 11, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will perform hydraulics maintenance on the swing bridge over Weems Creek on MD Route 436 (Ridgely Avenue).

The work will require the swing span to be in the open position, allowing marine traffic passage through and requiring a detour for vehicle traffic.  The work will be performed between 7 p.m. on Thursday August, 11 and 7 a.m. on Friday, August 12.  Residents and businesses will remain accessible.

SHA will provide the following detour route:

  • Travelling from Annapolis on MD 436; traffic will be detoured onto MD 70 (Rowe Boulevard), with a right onto Bestgate Road and a right onto MD 436
  • Travelling to Annapolis on MD 436; traffic will be detoured left onto Bestgate Road, with a left onto MD 70, left onto Melvin Avenue and left on MD 436.

Nearly 5,000 motorists use the Weems Creek Bridge daily so drivers should plan extra commute time into and out of Annapolis.

This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of rain or high winds.  SHA asks for motorists’ patience during the detour. For the latest real-time travel information, log onto www.md511.org.
