Quiet Waters Park is a beautiful park located on Quiet Waters Park Road in Annapolis. The Park is open from 7 am to dusk everyday except for Tuesdays. The Visitor Center hours are 9 am to 4 pm on weekdays, and 10 am to 4 pm on weekends. The operation, preservation, development, and enrichment of Quiet Waters Park depends on awareness, research, interest levels, history, ecology, and educating the public about the park and local area.
The Friends of Quiet Waters Park is a non-profit organization that began in 1990. The objective of the group is to support all operations within the Quiet Waters Park and to receive and maintain funds in which enable the park to operate.
There are huge playgrounds for children, an ice skating rink open in the winter season, a large dog park, a winding trail for biking, rollerblading, running, or walking, a sculpture garden, an information center, and many other places to see and things to do at Quiet Waters.
The Ice Skating Rink is open only in the winter and is a great time for everyone who gives it a spin. You can rent skates, purchase a daily pass or seasonal passes. The Friends of Quiet Waters Park have recently provided the funds for a state-of-the-art sound system and a new skate sharpener for your skating enjoyment.
Several craft shows, art shows, and musical performances take place at Quiet Waters throughout the year. The 21st Annual Arts Festival is already planned for Saturday, and Sunday, September 24th and 25th, 2011. This celebration of the fine, decorative, and performing arts of the Chesapeake Region is always a great time for friends and family in Annapolis.
The Sculpture garden at Quiet Waters Park has been acquiring artwork since 1990. Numerous sculptures have been installed and some are on a rotating basis. All sculptures are chosen by a jury. The selected artists come from throughout the United States.
The Anne Arundel County Master Gardeners provide a team of volunteers who maintain the fantastic gardens throughout the park. A composting demonstration site is located behind the Blue Heron Center parking lot on the Wildwood Trail. Many methods of composting are shown with instructional signs for helping you create your own compost area in your yard. The Master Gardeners give gardening demonstrations twice a month from May to October.
