For those of you who missed the April 30th, 2011 event, or are not yet familiar with this tradition, here’s a quick recap:

The 29th Annual Croquet Match took place on Saturday, April 30th at 1 pm on the front lawn of the St. John’s College campus. Spectators were picnicking on the lawn, swing dancers were ‘ripping up the dance floor’, and everyone was dressed in their best ‘Gatsby-esque’ ensembles. The St. John’s Freshman Chorus and the U.S. Naval Academy’s Trident Brass Band performed to a huge crowd of fun spectators.

Everyone watched as the Johnnies and the Middies faced off. The battle for the Annapolis Cup was underway.  St. John’s surprised everyone as they walked onto the field wearing ‘spoof’ versions of the Naval Academy’s traditional uniforms. The game was playful and fun-spirited, but tough. The St. Johnnies won the match against the Navy’s with a score of 3 to 1. Who will win next year?

The St. John’s versus United States Naval Academy Croquet Match is one of the most unique events in Annapolis, MD. This annual game is known as one of the world’s most popular croquet matches. With hundreds of attendees, it’s expected to turn into one big celebratory party on the lawn.
