Rams Head Tavern, part of regionally renowned Rams Head Group, is most well known for bringing top entertainment acts to Downtown Annapolis, but the property on which the building sits also has quite the historic legacy. Part of that legacy dates back to the 1700s when the Fordham Brewing Co. was originally established on the same site. Fordham has since moved its operations to Delaware and distributes nationally, but its ties to its original home of Annapolis remain and the brewery maintains a great relationship with Rams Head, even brewing an IPA in its honor.
The Rams Head IPA joins a multitude of beers from around the world that you can enjoy from the comfort of Rams Head Tavern. In fact, it’s just 1 of 100 beers that one must drink in order to become an official member of the restaurant’s ‘World Beer Club.’ The World Beer Club has grown into a Rams Head tradition and the names of all those to successfully complete it are proudly on display in the restaurant’s iconic basement bar. The task of drinking 100 beers is a daunting (albeit fun) one, but those who persevere find great pleasure in experiencing international flavors from around the globe (and bragging to friends who aren’t members).
The premise is simple- sign up for the Rams Head World Beer Club with your server or bartender, obtain your international beer passport to track your progress, then start sipping your way around the world. If you complete complete the challenge you’ll be rewarded with a plethora of perks, including a Rams Head Tavern World Beer Club mug and t-shirt, your name engraved on a plaque commemorating all beer club members, and perhaps most importantly, $2.75 drafts in their beer club mug- FOR LIFE. That’s any draft, any time for just $2.75.
When it comes to completing the World Beer Club challenge, many strategies of success have been devised. Some prefer to pick one style and drink all beers of that style before moving on. Others map out their beer journey by location and drink all of one country or city’s beers before going to the next. Some organize the list by price, some start with the beers they’ve had then work to the ones they haven’t (or vice versa), and some just randomly drink whatever their palette desires until all 100 have been consumed.
However you decide to go about it, if you’re a beer lover, or are just someone who loves a good challenge, joining the Rams Head World Beer Club is an exciting way to explore the world without ever leaving Downtown Annapolis.
