The first First Sunday Arts Festival of 2011 took place in Annapolis on Sunday, May 1st. The weather was gorgeous and the arts festival coincided with the 55th annual May Day celebration this year. Calvert and West Streets in historic downtown Annapolis were lined with vendors, locals, and visitors all having a great time.

With flowers in bloom all around and trees filled with green buds, everyone in Annapolis seemed to be outside enjoy all that springtime in the historic capital city offers.

Several restaurants became outdoor cafes for the arts festival. Many even become pet-friendly just for this outdoor event! Café-style dining outside is a perfect way to see the sites on the harbor and watch the live entertainment travel by.

The First Sunday Arts Festival is a street festival, an art market, a live entertainment venue, and a huge craft fair all at once. From May to October, come to downtown Annapolis on the first Sunday of these months. The festival runs from noon to 5 pm and is a something you don’t want to miss.

Admission the Arts Festival is always free. Parking is free, too. Just park your vehicle at the State parking garage on the corner of Calvert and Bladen Streets and walk around the corner to the streets lined with white tents.

More than 100 local and regional artists and crafters will have their preferred items at this event. If you’re trying to be green, this is the place to do so! You’ll be inspired by all of the locally made, eco-friendly produced products you can find at the First Sunday Arts Festival.

Entertainment includes live music by local bands and singers, dancing, theatre performances, and several street performers who participate in walking shows. Local theatre groups, dance groups and performing arts groups of all ages will keep you entertained throughout the day.
