We hope your week has started off fabulously, and that you’re prepared for some scattered thunderstorms, mid-August heat and stifling humidity this week in Annapolis, because that’s what’s in the forecast. Time to hit the beach. Maybe head to Ocean City for the weekend, or at the very least, spend a few hours at Sandy Point (swimming is allowed there again, after it was briefly prohibited when storm debris washed ashore).
On the bright side, literally, the sky will light up this Saturday and Sunday night when the Perseid meteor shower peaks; weather permitting, it’ll be quite the sight to see. For somewhat-nearby viewing spots, Patch recommends Greenbelt Park in PG County, the Howard County Conservancy in Woodstock, the University of Maryland observatory in College Park and the UMBC conservatory in Catonsville. Of course, your own backyard works, too!
Enjoy your week in Annapolis, stay dry and happy meteor-viewing. If you notice an important event that’s missing or would like us to post your event, just let us know!

Carriages on West Street Fun Corvette Car Show — Aug. 12, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
As early travelers arrived in Annapolis, MD by ship they were met by a horse drawn carriage. Once their belongings were unloaded from their ship they would proceed up Main Street to West Street and travel to Baltimore, Philadelphia, and over time to Washington DC. Over the years West Street has evolved, yet in many ways is still the gateway from downtown Annapolis to the major highways of today. In an effort to respect the rich history and traditions of West Street Annapolis the name of the Corvette Annapolis car show called Carriages on West Street was born.
August Wine in the Wind — Aug. 12, 4 – 6 p.m.
