This Week in Annapolis, we’re back to the post-Labor Day school-and-work routine: The City of Annapolis is hosting a “Back 2 School” celebration on Saturday at Truxtun Park, where kids can unwind from their first week back to the grind with music, sports, food and fun. Also this weekend, Maryland Hall’s 20th annual “Arts Alive” fundraiser will take its guests down south to the French Quarter, the Maryland Seafood Festival offers all kinds of delicious seafood dishes and the Navy Midshipmen play their first home game of the season against the Memphis Tigers — see below.

No matter what you’re up to this week, bring a bottle of ice water with you — it’s going to (continue to) be a hot one! With temperatures in the upper 90s and humidity making it feel like over 100 degrees, Anne Arundel County will have cooling centers open through Thursday all over the region

Arts Alive 20 – Sept. 7

Maryland Hall’s 20th annual Arts Alive fundraiser will take place on Friday, September 7, 2018. Enjoy an evening on Bourbon Street where you will be immersed in the tastes and sounds that are true to the French Quarter of New Orleans. Arts Alive 20 takes place from 6 pm -10 pm…entirely in a “tent under the stars” where you can mix and mingle, enjoy great food and wine, bid on items in our extensive silent auction and of course, listen to true New Orleans Jazz that will keep your toes tapping all night! Don’t forget to enjoy one of our Bourbon Street specialty cocktails!

Maryland Seafood Festival — Sept. 8

Mark your calendars on September 8th & 9th for the 51st Annual Maryland Seafood Festival! We’re celebrating over 50 years of food and fun at Sandy Point State Park with a weekend full of delicious seafood dishes, interactive cooking demonstrations,  exciting competitions, kids activities and more!

While you sample all of our tasty offerings, enjoy all of our maritime related exhibits, contests, and activities. The Maryland Seafood Festival also hosts loads of local shopping and vendor options, a fantastic beverage selection with lots of local craft beer and wine, and tons of kids activities, all hosted along the beautiful shores of the scenic Chesapeake Bay.

Navy vs. Memphis: 2018 Home Opener — Sept. 8

The Navy football team plays their AAC rivals the Memphis Tigers on this home opening game. Come root for your favorite Annapolis team at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium!

Maryland Renaissance Festival — Aug. 25 – Oct. 21 (Saturdays and Sundays)

The Maryland Renaissance Festival is back for its 41st season! The festival includes 200+ entertainers, ten stages, a 3,000 seat jousting arena, 122 craft shops, 48 food and beverage emporiums, games, attractions and 85 acres of complimentary parking. Hang out with King Henry and his court in the 16th-century English village, Revel Grove and let merriment abound. 

Dinner Under the Stars – Sept. 5, 6 – 10 p.m.

This summer, the Inner West Street Association is hosting a romantic evening event for families and friends under the stars. Spend a Wednesday night dining, dancing and listening to live bands in the middle of the street from 6pm to 10pm on the first block of West Street off Church Circle.  Participating restaurants will give you a wide choice of international and hometown flavors.

ArchiTrex Architecture Tour – Sept. 8, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The historic district of Annapolis can be considered a museum without walls. Wander through this ancient city and admire the treasure trove of architecture and preservation. Learn about the city’s most notable and celebrated examples of 17th and 18th Century architecture with ArchiTrex. Developed and led by local architects and artists

Sunday Outdoor Free Movies in the Garden – Sept. 9, 8:30 – 10:30 p.m.

First of all, who doesn’t love a Free Movie Screening? Add the fact that it is outside under the beautiful Annapolis sky, and you automatically have a family friendly, romantic, relaxed Sunday evening!

Every Sunday Night our Beer Garden becomes your Neighborhood Outdoor Movie Theatre with Free Classic Movie Screenings. All screenings are free and open to the public. Because all of our screenings begin at dusk, the start time may vary throughout the season.

Each Sunday we also feature a great Happy Hour from 3-7pm; come early and enjoy special features, and as the sun fades and movie starts, food and beverage service continues throughout the screening.
