Annapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides announces that the City of Annapolis is participating in an emergency exercise with the United States Naval Academy and Naval Support Activity Annapolis on Wednesday, February 3 and Friday, February 5. The Academy is one of several naval bases and other installations throughout the United States taking part in Exercise Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield 2016.
As part of the exercises, which are focused on local force protection protocols, the
following will take place:
  • On Wednesday, February 3, around 2:30 p.m., a drill will be conducted in the vicinity of Route 450 and USNA Gate 8.  Traffic is not expected to be significantly impacted.
  • On Friday, February 5, around 9:00 a.m., an Active Shooter drill will be conducted. The base will be “locked down” for approximately 20 minutes before gates are reopened. Residents near the base will see and hear police and EMS units, along with loud sirens and announcements being made over a loud speaker.
The city’s participation will consist of the Annapolis Fire Department/EMS, Annapolis
Police Department and Office of Emergency Management.
