The USNA women’s basketball team used a 17-2 run in the second half to defeat the Colgate Raiders, 75-59. Yesterday’s game at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, N.Y., was the regular season finale for both teams.
The victory gave Navy a 10-4 record in the Patriot League, rewarding them with at least a share in the league’s season-ending top ranking for the first time since 1998. The victory has also earned the Mids have earned the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Tournament for the first time in school history, meaning they will host every game they play in the tournament. The tourney starts next Saturday with a quarterfinal round game against the same Colgate team.
With this win, Navy is enjoying its first postseason appearance since becoming a Division I program during the 1991-92 season. Should the team win the Patriot League Tournament, it will be off to the NCAA Tournament. Without a win, the Mids will play in the WNIT.
