We realize that this weekend is probably booked solid whether it be with the kids, friends or any other types of Halloween mischief you’ll get into that we would frankly rather not be told about.

But if you get pictures, well, that might just be a different story.

If you plan to see some of the Halloween sights we have already made several suggestions. Check our guide to Halloween attractions parts I and II for some ongoing options you may have missed earlier. Most of these events will continue until Monday, so it’s crunch time spook-wise.

But on your way out and about to whatever arrangements you’ve already made we’ve got some suggestions for other things that may tickle your fancy in the non-scary way.

First, for the kids between 2-4 p.m. on Friday, is Harvest Moon at the Chesapeake Children’s museum. It’s free with the price of admission to the museum and offers arts, crafts, stories and group activities. It could be a very pleasant alternative to the unsettling activities the kids may have been engaged in during the ramp-up to Halloween. It may also work as a ramp up for the later night activities to come early next week. Call it a dry run of things to come.

For the sporting among us, there are a couple of Rockfish themed events in and around Annapolis this weekend. As there are reports this year being particularly good for Rockfish breeding now is a perfect time to try your hand at one of these monsters. In a couple years when the little ones become the big ones, the extra experience may treat you well.

The Monster Rockfish Tournament is on Saturday morning. Lines in @ 5 a.m. and fishing will continue until 3:30 p.m. The boat registration fee is $400, and there will be head boats on-site for individuals so long as they have space available. Full rules and regs are here in more detail that we could ever provide here and still get all the details correct. The important part is registered participants who catch a state record Rockfish win $100k. Otherwise the first-place fish is worth $20k provided there are 200 participants. If there are fewer boats the prizes will be reduced according to a formula I’m sure a few people worked very hard on.

On Sunday, in Greenwell State Park will play host to the second annual Monster Rockfish Festival. From 11-5 p.m. It’s a little off the beaten path from Annapolis but the food, beer, wine, music and award ceremonies from the Tournament should make this all worthwhile. Proceeds will go to the Greenwell Foundation to support their programs as well as the Maryland Vacations for Vets initiative.

So if you end up with a few moments to spare in what could be a very booked weekend take a look at what else is around Annapolis outside the realm of demons, witches and tricksters galore. There’s always something else to do.
